Obituary of Leslie Anne Feeney
(1948 – 2019)
The love of my life left me on Saturday, December 28, 2019. Leslie has gone to a better place where there is only peace and mercifully, no pain.
My beloved wife was an incredible individual for many reasons. She endured her disabilities for so many years with the greatest of dignity. Leslie touched all those around her with her empathy, her ability to relate to people from all walks of life and ability to listen to their problems and challenges. Lastly, she had a wicked sense of humour, which many appreciated.
Leslie leaves behind her beloved husband, Jim; her adored daughter, Tara Snyder (Steve); her dear sister, Margaret Joyce (Michael); a very special cousin, Helen Reynolds; a deeply loved friend, Ted McKechnie; three sisters-in-law, Margie Hallman, Joanne Shewchuk (Frank) and Carol Forsyth; and nine nephews and nieces.
Leslie was predeceased by her parents, Winifred and Bill McAvoy.
Born in Waterloo, Ontario on April 9, 1948, Leslie remained a lifelong resident of Waterloo. After leaving WCI, she embarked on a successful 25-year career at the University of Waterloo. Due to the onset of her medical challenges, she retired early and became the primary support for her ailing mother and many of the residents that surrounded her mother. Until she became wheelchair bound, she rarely missed a day, brightening many lives with her care. Perhaps that is where she learned to appreciate the impact and importance of little acts of kindness.
She was long recognized as “The Best Customer” of Conestoga Mall, where the staff of the jewellery, cosmetics and clothing stores will really miss her cheery presence and “frequent” buying habits.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to her extraordinary caregivers, Beverly, Anna and Amanda who looked after Leslie’s needs for many years. Beyond that, they became Leslie’s best friends and that enriched her life beyond measure!
