Laurie was a sweet, kind, thoughtful lady.
I first met Laurie when she helped me at the UW library when I was a student.
When I moved to the Parkside area for a while a few years back, I thought it was very nice that Sunnydale had a community association with an online presence. I also noticed the little libraries around Waterloo and found them very touching. Back then, I didn't know the person behind these was also my librarian!
More recently, we bumped into each other at my place of work, and I was glad to be able to help in return.
I am very saddened to hear that Laurie is gone, but surprised and inspired by her life. She had a hand in making real so many of the wonderful touches in the KW community that make KW what it is.
Laurie is a beautiful soul whose life enriched the lives of many.
I will keep her in mind as an example to live by.

Dear Laurie, It was a privilege to know and work with you. I admired your strength, courage, and how you related to people. You're one of the most respectable people I have known. I will never forget you. Be at peace Laurie. My condolences to the whole family.

My deepest condolences to Laurie's family - she will be missed in so many communities. Today's funeral was a beautiful tribute to a wonderful woman. As we sang "Go well and safely" I remembered Laurie at campfire, a big smile on her face and the joy she felt sharing good times with her sisters in Guiding. Go well and safely, Laurie and rest in the arms of the angels.

Laurie was a ray of sunshine in our community and I loved getting to know her through volunteering with Girl Guides. I enjoyed attending volunteer fair events at Conestoga College and local festivals with her, learning about her time in Guiding. She quickly became a mentor to me and was always there to lend a hand and offer assistance and advice. Her beautiful personality, infectious smile and wealth of knowledge will be greatly missed. Condolences to Laurie's family and friends.

Laurie was a mentor of mine within Guiding. When I first moved to Waterloo I took over 24th Waterloo Brownies which met at Cedarbrae school - across the street from Laurie's house. She took me under her wing and was always available when I needed an extra set of hands or a friendly ear. Laurie had the best stories - she carried the history of so many of the units in Waterloo, including that one. She organized an outreach with some of the Muslim families in her complex and introduced several girls to Guiding via my unit. When the time came that the unit needed to close, Laurie took the toadstool and owl to keep for another unit that would need it. Laurie was one of the kindest people I've ever met and my world is a little darker without her in it. Go Well and Safely Laurie.

Laurie had tremendous knowledge about communities and what it took to build a safe and healthy community. I was always in Ah! when I met with her over various community projects throughout the years. I truly believe she was a pioneer in community development and someone so many people enjoyed working in partnership with the Waterloo Region Crime Prevention Council and many other groups. I will miss you and our community will also knowing that your determination and values were what it took to make a real difference! Sincerely Marty Schreiter

Laurie was one of the most organized people I ever knew. As my Deputy Division Commissioner, Waterloo Division, Girl Guides of Canada from 1997 to 2000 she kept me focused, on track and was my most valuable sounding board. I cherish the memories we created and like to think that the girls we mentored learnt invaluable lessons from her guiding light. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. My deepest condolences to her family and friends. She brought a smile to all who knew her!
