My condolences to Michael, Lee, Tim, and Sharon. It was almost 40 years ago that your father impacted my life. As a coach (and with your mother at his side), they created a lifetime of memories as the tireless leaders of "our" soccer team. He led us to great victories culminating in a trip that every soccer player dreams of to Europe with the final destination being his birthplace in England.
John created incredible memories. But it is not the memories that I remember. He lives with me and many of my team mates in the lessons he taught me not only on the field but lessons that have transcended soccer. He leaves a legacy of loyal, respectful, and caring players who gave our all for him on the pitch. For me, I have carried on his teachings and legacy as I have had the honour to pass on his knowledge and wisdom to my sons and their team mates as a coach. I have modelled those teams and have tried to create an environment that your father and mother created for me.
Your father created so much more than lifetime memories. He mentored children who became successful community members and then who passed on his wisdom to future generations. His kindness and commitment and that of your mother's inspired the next generation to pursue and excel at volunteer work.
Many are remembered for what they did. For me, I not only remember but live with the teachings and inspiration your father emanated.
I am one of the fortunate ones in life who was blessed by his leadership.
May he rest in peace and may his memory and teachings continue to inspire future generations.
Forever grateful,
Jason
