I remember how excited Nancy was to retire and be able to spend more time with family.
She was so happy to talk about her trips out to BC to visit her daughter and son in law, especially when the new Grand baby came along.

Mom/Maxine Reid always had a special place in her heart for her twin Milton. He introduced her to his best bud Dad/Ron Jex and started a 69 year marriage. Aaron and I always felt close to our cousins even though distance kept us apart. Now our hearts are breaking for Ed, Mari Jane and their families. We are thinking of you and wish we had more than words to help.

Peter and I were very sorry to learn of Nancy's passing. We want to offer our condolences and wish Ed and the family moments of peace and comfort at this time. I remember the very first time I met Nancy - at her home - for a "Heads at Ed's". She was so incredibly warm and welcoming to me and everyone - whether she had met us before or not. She was such a genuine person. It was clear that she also took an interest in what was going on in Ed's work. She knew a little about each of us and made a true effort to learn more. Although I did not have the fortune of spending a lot of time with Nancy I did have the fortune of hearing stories and just Ed speaking about Nancy in general over the years we worked together. A beautiful woman inside and out.

I am just so sorry to learn of Nancy’s passing.
Her obituary certainly highlights a life well-lived and the courage she displayed in the face of a very tough diagnosis.
I have memories of Nancy as she grew up in Sebringville. She was always the best dressed and well mannered lass (credit of course goes to Joyce) with a bubbly little laugh that was delightful.
Nancy was also one of the Christmas morning carolling gang who crowded into my Dad’s van at 6 a.m. to drive to Stratford hospital to bring a little joy to the patients stuck in hospital over the holiday.
My sincere sympathies to Ed, Mari-Jane and your families.

Ed,
Yalu and I were very saddened to hear the news of Nancy's untimely passing! From the posted stories of her life and the love of family and friends it is clear her life was well lived, though far too short! I know you both treasured the outdoors and I am mindful now of some memorable canoe trips we shared to Algonquin Park while back in grad school. We hope that the memory of those wonderful life experiences that you both shared and the comfort of family and friends bring strength at this time of loss!
Sincerely, Roland, Yalu and Catherine

It is with tremendous sadness to learn of Nancy's untimely passing. My heart goes out to you Ed, Christine, Rob, Jamie and Ben and respective families. It was while working at CHCI that I first met Nancy, first as a colleague's spouse and then as a student's mom. Her warm, kind-hearted and genuine demeanour shone through from way back then. May the love you shared and the beautiful memories you created together give you strength, provide healing and buoy your spirits in the journey forward.
My sincerest condolences.

When Ed was the principal at W-O, I had the pleasure of meeting Nancy several times a year, usually at the biannual Heads-at-Ed where they generously welcomed us into their home. I will always remember Nancy’s kindness and grace. In the midst of chaos among loud chattering where everyone was speaking over each other, Nancy always made a point to greet everyone personally. On one occasion during a gathering several years ago, she found me sitting by myself at a corner and we had a lovely conversation. She asked about my family and my recent travels and she even knew where I had been that summer. These little things illustrate the importance she put on connecting with people. The world is a lesser place without Nancy. I shall remember Nancy’s gentle smiles and I shall remember her by carrying a little of her kindness with me, always.

My name is Sabine Strauss and I am a nurse at St .Marys hospital. The tribute picture of Nancy you posted made me so happy yet sad knowing we lost such a beautiful kind hearted person .Over the years we had come to know each other over the phone at work talking about a patient transfer or when she was on the “Code Team “ I was on the unit , feeling overwhelmed when we face this type of situation and there you see Nancy , you could just feel that pat on the back hey “ we got this “ we also had short interactions at our bed meetings when Nancy was the charge Nurse for ICU .A few minutes of hello , how are you meant a lot. We got to know each other better when we had an opportunity to fly to Indiana on a work trip to tour the Hilrom Company .They make hospital beds and other medical equipment .This company actually supplied 100s of beds to New York City days after 9 11. We were wined and dined something we can all say as a Nurse-we need once in a while . It was so wonderful sharing this experience with her. We talked about our families and we realized that her husband Ed Doadt was the Principal at Waterloo Oxford. My kids know him well Heidi, Linda and Monica Strauss they speak of you Ed with respect and kindness. You have invested your career in mentoring young people to encourage and guide them as any special Educator would do. Nancy told me how much you loved your job and how much you cared for your students and it continues to show as you connect through social media as your students face life as adults . One of the last times I saw Nancy was at the Tim Horton line at work. She was so excited to retire and spend time with her family .Not long after she retired I would ask another special ICU nurse Mary how Nancy was doing only to hear she had cancer. It was so hard to hear it . Nancy was courageous and I thank God for her family and her work family fellow nurses that perhaps had all the right medical questions to ask or just that reassurance Nancy needed day to day that she was not alone and so loved. As a person of faith I still struggle with “ Why ?” why did she have to go so soon but I can confidentally say God had placed an Angel among us. Nancy was one of those people that touched your heart and she made a difference . To the Doadt family and to the ICU staff at St .Marys I send you my deepest sympathies and give you all the biggest hug . I would love to share a song you can look up on YouTube from Kenny Rogers “ Goodbye “ . Love From Sabine Nurse x 34 years You know we have some great people at St.Marys . I will miss you Nancy .

I met Nancy and Ed while working and I sold them their home. This was special to me because we became neighbours and Christine was our son's babysitter. Gregory enjoyed Christine's company, especially when Robby came along. They had so much fun. We shared our yards and the kids were always spending time together.
The one memory that stands out the most is the day Nancy and Ed didn't have water. I was happy to share my home so Nancy could shower. I forgot to mention this to my Mom, who was taking care of our son Gregory for the morning. My Mom came down the stairs with no top on. The days of climate change, lol. There was Nancy standing in the foyer. Shocked both of them! I loved her baking! She was such a warm and funny lady. Never forgotten you.
RIP, you will be missed deeply.

I am so fortunate to have enjoyed those highly anticipated Heads-at-Ed's dinners. While Ed was our host, Nancy was the heart and soul, dancing around the kitchen to feed us all. The best part was time spent at the table long after the guests had gone, sharing wine and thoughtful guidance. Her generous smile reflects the light she shared with all.
