Obituary of Dr. Frank Yee-Chuan Loy

Loy, Dr. Frank Yee-Chuan

Dr. Frank Loy died peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at the age of 82. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Lindsey (and family), Chris (Rebecca), Anthony, and Vanessa (David). A proud grandfather, he will be greatly missed by his two granddaughters and three grandsons, Zachary, Ari and Samuel, who endearingly referred to him as “Grandpa Yeye”. He will also be missed by his sister Beatrice and friend Devi with whom he shared the joy of their children and grandchildren.

A native of Cape Town, South Africa, Frank attended the University of Cape Town and graduated with a Degree in Medicine and specialty in Anaesthesiology. In search of a better life due to South Africa’s apartheid system, Frank and his young family moved to Toronto where he worked at Sick Kids Hospital. They settled in Waterloo, Ontario in the early 1970s where he practiced Anesthesiology at the two local hospitals, later transitioning into private practice while also operating a private Acupuncture practice.

Frank was a curious, energetic, and entrepreneurial individual who loved learning new things. He could often be found tinkering or fixing something around his home or yard. Tenacious and determined, Frank never shied away from a challenge and enjoyed sharing his wisdom with others. He also shared a love of photography and collecting antiques. He adored his grandchildren, and in his later years would spend his spare time watching their soccer and hockey games, or enjoying a good meal with his family.

Due to current circumstances, a private funeral service will be held for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ontario Lung Association.
