Obituary of Lenard Frank Hallman
February 11, 1936 - May 1, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lenard Frank, 84, share that he entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 1, 2020 after losing his fight to COVID-19. Predeceased and now reunited in Heaven with his parents Clarence & Catherine Hallman, his first wife of 40 years Shirley Edna (nee Phair; 1996), his sister Greta Hallman (2001), his loving partner Isabelle Lorraine Langley (2017) & his eldest daughter, Beverly Anne Harris (2017).
Dearly missed & loving father to his children, Fran Smale, Terry (Lyne) Hallman, Sue (Jim) Heffernan & son-in-law Paul Harris. Proud grandfather to Kelly (Ian) Cameron, Jason (Jenna) Lyons, Melanie (Cameron) McIntyre, Katherine (Aaron) Ellis, Eric (Kassandra) Heffernan, Katarina Smale, Sarah (Brandon) Harris & Annabelle Hallman. Forever in the hearts of his great-grandchildren, Lyndsey Cameron, Peyton & Adasyn Lyons and Dallas & Paisley Ellis. Lovingly remembered by his sisters Dolores Mackay & Shirley Hoffman.
An active member of the St. Jacobs Lions Club for decades & showing commitment through humanitarian work, he received the highest form of recognition, the “Melvin Jones Fellowship”, acknowledging his generosity, compassion, and concern for the less fortunate. Known as “The King of Cans”, Lenard would collect and sell pop tabs, of which the funds raised were used to purchase wheelchairs for individuals in need. He was proud to assist with the Vision Screening Program within schools to ensure that all children could see without struggle, believing that clear vision was essential for students to reach their full academic potential. His fondness and love for dogs led him to assist with & advocate for the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, providing those with vision, hearing, medical, or physical disabilities a Dog Guide at no cost. Len also volunteered with the Lions Camp Dorset, which provides an opportunity for kidney dialysis patients & their families to experience retreats or vacations at a treatment facility with comfort.
Lenard had a sense of humour and loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed playing practical jokes on family members & friends, always keeping those around him on their toes, wondering what he would be up to next. Both his laugh & smile were contagious, possessing optimism, positivity & confidence no matter what challenges in life came his way. He enjoyed documenting all parts of life events & milestones, always to be found behind his camcorder at parties, celebrations, and even simple social gatherings. His family will treasure the moments he has captured to date and will miss his future documentaries.
Arrangements entrusted to Erb & Good Funeral Home, Waterloo. Cremation has taken place & burial to take place at Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener. Due to current social limitations, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers in Len’s memory, donations made to the registered charities of “Lions Foundation of Canada” (# 13024 5129 RR0001) or “Dog Guides Canada” (# 11883 7046 RR0001) would be appreciated by the family.
