Dear members of the Lamers family,
I was so sad to hear about the passing of dear Gerry. I got to know he and Dora well during my years as Pastor of St. Francis Parish, where they were generous volunteers. They were people of great faith, of hope, and of love. They were Hospitality Ministers, greeting people for the 11:00 a.m. Mass, and this was a natural for them, and they were loved and respected by people of all ages for their friendliness and engaging personalities. If we were ever in need of help, there were Dora and Gerry. I remember, early one morning, going to St. Mary's Hospital for an eye procedure and it was Gerry who took me to where I had to go. When I asked about their volunteer work there (as I had seen them on many occasions) he told me the scheduled hours they had - not necessarily convenient for a retired couple, but they were willing to do it to serve others and make other people's experience in St. Mary's General Hospital a more positive experience. I will offer my Mass on Tuesday for Gerry, and remember Dora with great affection too. God bless all of you, and may the peace and consolation of the Risen Lord be with you all.
