Mardi had a sympathetic ear for my late daughter, Fiona, who suffered from bouts of anxiety. Just how the two got to know each other, I’m not sure, except for their common meeting ground of Sunfish Lake. But once their bond had formed, whenever I saw Mardi, she would always ask about Fiona and ask me to convey best wishes to her. Mardi had a great fund of empathy for anyone in emotional distress – a wonderful gift from a remarkable woman.
