Dear Bev, Nan and Karen and your families; My deepest condolences on the loss of your incredible wonderful mother, and yet at the same time I somehow have a sense of wanting to celebrate your mom and extend that to you. I've only had a few true role models in my life and Lorrie would be right up there at the top. Although I last had a visit with her in the Fall of 2018, for a few years before that I was able to get to town and visit this remarkable woman and be inspired all over again. Although I knew Lorrie a bit while belonging the KW House Churches, it was really when I started working for the Reception Centre that I started to know her better. Her quiet and consistent support of me and the work of the Centre left a last imprint on my life. I'm sure I am only one of many, many persons who would echo my thoughts. Warmest regards to all of you,
Barbara

Dear Karen, Nan and Bev.
My condolences on your mother’s passing. We had many happy times together with your family in our younger days. I remember many sleepovers, picnics and camping trips. “Aunt” Lorrie and “Uncle” Fred always made us feel welcome. You will miss your mom. She was a gentle and kind women with a strong sense of justice and caring for others. She lived a full life. My thoughts are with you.

Lorraine was a blessing to me in many ways: as an inspiration in worship, as a model for living simply, and as an excellent scrabble- player! These words come to mind when I remember her: deeply compassionate, steward of the earth, challenging, intelligent, hard-worker for justice.
All those who knew her will feel the loss, as well as gratitude.
Peace to her family.

IN DEEP TRIBUTE & AFFECTION FOR THE LIFE of LORRAINE (LAURIE) SNYDER):
The First Testament of our Bible speaks of those faithful who have lived a long life as one who died "full of years." I take this as meaning far more and deeper than longevity but rather wisdom. I have known Lorraine for well over three decades, but time alone cannot measure the impact she has left upon me for the better, chiefly through our house church. Among those whom I love over my years in this movement & who have impacted upon me, Laurie stands tall as the greatest among the great. I smile, as I remember, that Lorraine intimidated me like no other in our house community; she seemed so stern. How wrong I was! Behind that seemingly tough demeanor (which she reserved for the injustices she confronted boldly), was a caring and loving sister. Lorraine walked with me through the most dishonest & turbulent period of my life, when my marriage was becoming unglued and remained by my side as stability returned. My only sibling is an older sister (by three years named Judy), and yet Lorraine became my older sister, always available in good times and bad. I remember a ceremony, organized by her family, to honor her life when a grandson (I believe) told of how he stood up in a high school class to proudly declare that his grandma had been arrested. I could repeat her Christ-like actions for those vulnerable & voiceless of our society in the name of the Jesus she followed faithfully & lovingly, but I see in the formal obituary that the family has named them well. You and Fred always gave me physical space at you home where I could crash, and I thank God that I received two blessed visits with you this year, where we laughed, reminisced and where you offered me that appropriate wisdom I needed to hear about a yet unresolved reconciliation in my own life. Sister Lorraine, I love you and will miss you so very much. You have left an indelible stamp on my very being. Across the Jordan you are now, embraced by our common Christ "where death and sorrow will be no more."

Karen, Nancy and Beverly - our sincere condolences to you and your family in the passing of your Mom. She was so proud of you all. She was a very special person. I will always remember what a kind and loyal friend she was to our Mom and Dad, Tom and Eva Hamilton- they were all high school friends who shared a special bond despite distance, for a lifetime. I remember fondly our family visits to your home on Duchess street and the fun we had. I was always cheered by your Moms phone calls in latter years especially after my Mom and Dad had passed. She was always so interested to hear about all the family. Your Mom truly lived her faith and her beliefs and I’m sure her example will live on in her family. How blessed we are to have known her.
Sincerely, Martin and Mary Shelley
