I had the privilege of curling with Doug for the last few years. We spent many moments reminiscing about back home and discussing the issues of the day. Doug phoned me before he went to St. Mary's Hospital and he wasn't overly concerned about his operation. I asked him to give me a call and let me know how he was doing. It came as quite a shock to see his obituary in the paper. I offer deepest sympathies to all of Doug's family. Rest in Peace my friend.

I remember every year Doug and Mabel Coming to Newfoundland and coming to visit my father (Doug first cousin on his mother’s side). While here they would pick gallons of blueberries to bring back with them. I remember thinking they must be nuts and then I moved away and came to realize there is nothing like berries from Newfoundland. My father remembers when they were young that everyone thought they looked alike and I can see from his picture that they do.
Well just wanted to let you know that we are thinking of you all at this time. I hope you gain comfort from knowing that your mom and dad are both safe in the arms of Jesus.

On one of Uncle Doug and Susan's visits to Calgary, myself, Bill and Randy Hutchings got to have a lovely lunch together. From the family posting so many nice and glowing pictures of him and Aunt Mabel, I wish we had seen more of them when we lived in ON.
