Les Robertson was as decent a guy as you’re likely to meet. It was a conclusion that you came to in part from his descriptions of growing up in Toronto, his early jobs, his career in the printing industry, his life in church work, his kids and where they and their families are dispersed.
Les was also a generous man. For example, he would spend hours of his leisure time recording videos of weddings and funerals for people that he knew through his church. He was more than a fellow who would simply point a camera and a mike; he understood the details of how the electronics performed and how to make different recording systems compatible.
Another of his favourite pursuits was his woodworking shop in which he made needed church furnishings and gifts for friends.
He was a person who was aware of his own spiritual journey. He could trace certain views he had gathered as a youth and, in examining them as he matured, express his pleasure in seeing them supplanted by more open-minded ones.
Les was very much a family man supported by his wife, Elna. They are the stuff from which good communities are built. We celebrate the life of Les and the continuing life of Elna who remains a community builder.
