I was truly fortunate to work for Ken O'Driscoll when he was Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering, and I would see him and his wife Pat occasionally over the decades after I left my position. He was a respectful, kind, fair, and fun person to work with, who was devoted to his wife and family. I read of his passing with real regret and extend sincere condolences to Pat and his family.

Ken was a wonderful colleague, researcher, academic leader, and friend. As an early departmental chair of Chemical Engineering at UW, Ken always took the time to listen to all sides of issues before offering solutions. For me, therefore, he was an excellent administrator and I admired and tried to emulate his leadership style. Ken didn't cast himself as a career administrator; as a result, he moved with apparent ease into and out of that role while maintaining his creds as a top academic researcher.
Ken had a commendable lightheartedness about life; he knew how to enjoy himself even while working hard, witness his love of sailing. Even in retirement, though he suffered through severe physical challenges, he remained optimistic.
I'm sorry to have to finally say goodbye to Ken, a lovely guy. I offer my condolences to Pat and his family on his passing. We will all miss him. Bob Hudgins
