Remembrance of Evelyn
Ron and I have been so incredibly blessed by having had our dear, sweet Evelyn in our lives for over 28 years. She brought beauty and grace to each encounter we had.
Evelyn had such a wonderful way of looking at life. She always saw the best in people and made sure to let them know. She spoke life to people by encouraging them when they were feeling down and providing a warm embrace and smile to help that along.
Evelyn’s style and creativity showed up in how she was always put together, even if she wasn’t feeling well. Her mohair sweaters, paired with a matching turtleneck in a rainbow of bright colours, were a trademark fashion choice. Those always made her soft and cuddly to hug as well! Evelyn’s writings were amazing and she had the ability to put words on a page that expressed deep truths and insights. We are all blessed that she left us stories of her life in her own words.
I guess one of the most outstanding qualities that Evelyn had was her love for God. She knew that she was His child and she saw everyone with the same love that our heavenly Father has for us. She had many disappointments in life yet she continued to trust in God’s love and goodness, no matter the circumstance. She understood that we have a Father who loves us without conditions and who longs to hold us all in His embrace of grace, without exception.
One of the mementos I have from Evelyn is a framed picture of me beside a rose bush in her backyard from 15 years ago. She wrote me a lovely message and the last part I would like to quote is: “Jesus has a special place for both of us where someday we will bloom together forever in God’s garden amongst His many blossoms.”
Evelyn, I know you are blooming now in that garden and I look forward to exploring it with you one day. You were so loved, and will always be loved.

I am so grateful for everything I learned from my grandmother. Not only for the skills in baking and sewing, but lessons I learned by watching and listening to her. Her strength and heart, perseverance and joy are all qualities that I have found so inspiring. I miss you, and love you so much.

You have been a wonderful, loving and faithful Godmother and cousin to me during all my 79 years! For one thing, you always remembered my birthdays. There was always a strong bond between us, emotionally and spiritually. Over the years we conversed about this and appreciated it as an aspect of our relationship. You will remain part of my life in spirit. Much love, Carolyn

One of the best memories I have of my dear mother-in-law was the year she saved Christmas…dinner that is. My side of the family was coming for Christmas dinner. On the morning of, I went to the downstairs fridge to retrieve the turkey. As soon as I opened the fridge door, I knew. My next thought was what’s open on Christmas? Pizza places? Jewish deli’s? Then Jim said that he was going to call his mom because she usually bought a turkey for her and Greg. I was doubtful but desperate. When Jim told me that she had a fresh turkey from the same place we bought ours, I squealed with joy. I joined Jim to pick it up and gave Evelyn the biggest hug ever!

Gramala,
My favourite memories are when Joany would put on plays in your basement, when we played zim zam or wiffle ball in your backyard as children, and later our coffee dates at Williams coffee pub.
Thank you for all of our tender memories, for all of your teachings and smiles and emails and cards.
I feel you close, thank you for watching over me.
Love you forever,
Sarah

Evelyn was my Grandmother and one of the most empathetic people I have ever met.
She carried the world on her shoulders and instilled such loving care and decency in her friends, family, and all those who were dear to her.
Evelyn gave us a shining example of how we can take what life throws at us, and pick out the moments that matter.
She was lucky to have such a loving husband, and caring children, and she knew it.
I'll forever miss her. I will always cherish the memories of playing with the die cast car toys in her basement. I'll never forget who she was, what she taught me, and, of course, her devilish sense of humour.
Love you Grandma.

Some of my favourite memories of my Grandma are those from childhood. It always felt like a special day when my siblings, cousins and I got to meet at Grandma’s house after school. It was always extra special when she let us raid her licorice/candy drawer :).
Rest In Peace, Grandma.
Love, Ainsley
