My condolences on behalf of the Parkwood Mennonite Home community, where Fred lived for the past year. We miss his gentle spirit and sense of fun. His table-mates remember his little practical jokes and good humour which brought a smile to residents during the time of isolation we have experienced this year. Fred and the family are in our prayers here.
Blessings and peace - Rev Alan Cook, Chaplain

To Fred's family, my deepest condolences to all of you on the passing of your dear Dad and Opa. Fred was such a kind and compassionate man, always concerned for others. I have so many memories as a teenager of his support for all of Ingie's Rangers. As an adult I came to consider both your Mom and Dad as mentors and dear friends. We stayed in touch after your Mom died and I treasured the lunches we had together, often sharing memories of Ingie, and sharing the faith that sustained him in his grief. As long as I can remember he was encouraging and supportive of my endeavours and he was always interested in what i was doing in my life. I'm sorry I wasn't as in touch this past year. I will miss your dad, not only for the connection he gave me to your Mom, but because I loved him as well. They are together again, as it should be. He missed your Mom deeply, as I know you will all miss both of them. Love to all of you. May your memories bless you in the days and weeks ahead. Ann (Hiemstra) Harbridge.

My deepest sympathies at the passing of your dad. Our families lives have crisscrossed over time - at WKUM, with our son at BNC and more recently with your dad residing at Parkwood. Our parents were life long friends, part of the "gang" and I recall many a Sunday picnic at Waterloo Park as we were growing up. Your dad had a wonderful...sly smile- you knew he was thinking one thought ahead of you. In later years our parents took to playing trivial pursuit - the guys against the women. I am sure there continue to be disagreements as to who really won those games. Blessings to all of you as you mourn his death - hiking in the great beyond with your mom!

I enjoyed sitting behind Fred in church at BMC and told Fred on many occasions that I had his back. I also remember hearing the story how Fred and Ingrid would ask each other before communion if the other was okay. They would nod to each other then proceed to take communion. A very good lesson that taught me.
I miss Fred since I no longer attend BMC and will miss him when I visit.
