I have had the pleasure of knowing Helga and calling her my dear friend for 25 years. I first met her through a mutual friend (Sandy Ewald) at a cottage weekend getaway. We hit it off right away and have been friends ever since. Her ‘joie de vivre’ was magnetic and we soon discovered that we shared similar passions (although she took passion to a whole other level!): *healthy living and love of the outdoors and the environment *good food (but I couldn’t cook or bake like she did!) *going to art galleries *enjoying live music *talking and laughing very easily and loudly! *exploring ideas very thoroughly Helga clearly had many close friends but she always made me feel like I was very special to her and made time for me which I’m sure she did for everyone. A few years ago, I went through a very difficult time in my life and she and Rolf were a great support to me, having me over for gourmet dinners and after dinner, Rolf would retire to the basement to leave Helga and me to yack the night away. Before I knew it, it would more often than not be midnight or 1 am and my eyes were fading and Helga would be wide awake ready to start a new topic of deep discussion and I had to tear myself away because it was a weeknight and I had to work the next day, lol! I remarried 2 years ago and Helga and Rolf warmly welcomed Mark into our fold and we all enjoyed taking in live music together or just sharing a meal and good conversation. We looked forward to more good times together but it wasn’t meant to be. I miss my sweet friend and I’m happy that I had the summer off to spend time with her before I had to go back to my crazy job and she would embark on her next adventure. I wish I could have spent more time with her in the last few weeks but she was on my mind and in my prayers at all times and I will always have sweet memories of our time together. Dear Rolf, Christian, Leah & Konrad Our heart goes out to all of you, our deepest sympathies. I hope it is some comfort to you to know that Helga was loved by so many people and always true to herself. She was surrounded by your love and by the love of others. Dear Rolf, Christian, Leah, Konrad and Family Members, My deepest and heart-felt condolences go out to each one of you at this time. Helga's life was a shining and bright light to everyone who knew her and she will be greatly missed! However, we know that Helga would not want us to be sad but rather, she would want us to remember all the happy and memorable times we've had while in her presence. I feel so very blessed to have so many! This photo was taken Friday 16 October 2020, the day before Helga passed away. I sensed Helga's presence as I stood on the bridge at Conestogo Lake and I knew how much she would enjoy this view of nature. Immediately I sent her the photo and wrote: Hi Helga and family. This is a view from the bridge at Conestogo Lake. Such a beautiful view to share with you!! I love you soooooo muuuuch! Helga replied with: Thank you for sharing. xH Helga's love lives on, just as a river perpetually nourishes nature. Helga lived her life in full colour, as she played, fully, in the river of life. Her beauty shone through, reflecting as boundless energy while cycling, hiking on wooded trails, camping, gardening, attending lectures, contributing to community projects, sharing playful, loving kindness with family and friends. She exuded bubbling enthusiasm in conversations, on a myriad of topics, while respectfully exploring and questioning opinions. Helga relished sharing and savouring the flavours and aromas of scrumptious food and homemade kombucha. The Full Moon parties are a testament to her culinary creativity and endless laughter while howling at the Moon! She created sensational gardens, bursting with colourful blossoms and scents and leafy textures - honouring Mother Earth's endless beauty. Over that last few months, we leaned on each other, as we explored nature trails together, mutually exuding intrigue for the tiniest of creatures and a wonderment and awe for the puffy clouds and blue skies above, all as Helga identified wild flowers with each step we took. Nature is Helga's eternal playground. Helga's effervescence and love for her beautiful family and friends flows forever. With love and appreciation to you Helga, for our shard adventures and soul nourishing friendship. Lucy
