It may have been my first Sunday at Lincoln Road Chapel when I met Helen. She was a faithful prayer warrior through some difficult times in my life, and I still have one of the many cards she wrote to so many of us, despite her arthritic hands.
Memories include:
- advice that as a single homeowner you need to be a good business woman! She was kind and caring, but she didn't want people messing with her!
- sharing how she prepared for Sabbath by clearing the table (of all work I assume) and putting on a tablecloth
- the time I trimmed her bush by the front steps. As an amateur, I think I took a lot more off than she expected, but in her gracious manner all she said was "that's the best trim that bush has ever had!"
- calling her at Parkwood in recent months when she no longer remembered who I was. Although I was calling to encourage her, each time she asked me all about myself, and faithfully wrote my name and the date in her notebook.
- her smile
Helen will be greatly missed by so many.

There are many fond memories of visits to "Aunt" Helen's and her visits to the farm at Millbrook, she even came to the barn to meet Helen the Charolais, and of course that was a photo op!
My son and I last saw her last summer when we took Grandma Holly to see her and shared lunch from Tim Hortons.
I am sure these last months have been difficult with COVID restrictions both for her and for all of you!
Our thoughts and prayers are with "Aunt" Helen's family at this time.

Remembering your sense of humour--that laugh and twinkle in your eyes, radiating your youthfulness of spirit, vitality, joy and peace. Treasuring your stories, including when your older cousin (Arthur, my grandfather) gave you a ride on his motorcycle (can't recall if you were 16 or he was! :). So valued your heart for prayer, that you intently listened with your heart and shared from this place. As shared (in what would be our last visit/conversation) your heart's desire was that others would know Jesus as their Savior and Friend. No doubt, you are now dancing with Him. In celebration and thanksgiving of your life.

It is hard to think of Helen and not think of her sincere interest in students and their well being. She was always so happy to see you and always asked how you were doing. One specific memory I have was a summer where she had a bumper crop of giant basil, she was eager to share her harvest and I was a grateful beneficiary. Thank you Helen for your gift of friendship and my condolences to her family.

I have been out of touch with Helen for years and yet she burns very brightlyin my memory. I worked with inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, and deeply appreciated Helen's support of the work with students. She always had a twinkle in her eye and a quiet way of speaking words of wisdom. Please accept my condolences, and know that she is joyful in heaven.

It was a great honour and joy to be a friend of Helen King. I got to know her in 1986 when she moved to Waterloo and joined the Nurses Christian Fellowship here. She was an encouragement to active nurses and faithfully kept in touch with us over the years, even with welcome drop-in visits and tasty gifts of baking. She was always interested in our endeavours and our families and we could count on her continuing prayers for us. Her smile and laugh will be among the memories I hold dear of her. May her family be blessed with gratitude and peace as they remember the long life of this good and faithful servant of our Lord.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the King family. Even though she was not our aunt, after Karen and Jim married, we all referred to her as Aunt Helen even our two daughters. We certainly appreciate all the support she provided to our mom when they both resided in apartments at Parkwood. It is hard to imagine a family gathering without her.

This is what I posted on my facebook page, along with a photo. Love the picture you chose for her obituary:
Helen King. An amazing woman who is now with her Lord. A great story teller from a long, full life of 98 years! A caring woman who I had the privilege of spending time with, befriending international students. Helen, you never had children of your own, but you were a Mom, Grandma and friend to so many people who needed you to be there. You were our go to retired public health nurse, an indispensable part of the team on so many levels. I can hear Jesus saying: "Well done, my good and faithful servant"
(Her age is wrong, she would laugh at that. I still use her line when I teach ESL from when we worked together with International students and they would ask how old she was: "I'm younger than my mother."
