John was a life-long friend to our family. We have known him for 50 years. We planned yearly get togethers on his birthday, at Christmas in Hamilton and he visited our cottage in Muskoka each summer. He was very generous to our 3 sons,-- Mike, Matt, and Tim over the years. On several occasions we would vacation with John in Myrtle Beach or Florida. Our family dogs were always excited to see John and receive the treat that he always brought. For some reason, they always sat beside him during family meals. He was a man of many interests. He was actively involved with the Train Society in Huntsville, Ontario even to the point of participating in the restoration of artifacts. He worked hard on the hockey history of Hamilton producing a set of hockey cards and had just completed an extensive book on the history of hockey in Hamilton. He loved all Hamilton Sports -- the hockey Bulldogs, the baseball Cardinals, and the football Tiger-Cats. We also went to many Blue Jays games with him. He was a very spiritual man devoted to his Roman Catholic religion. We will miss him. A greatly cherished friend -- Diane and Bryan Schofield
