John Kroger

Obituary of John Frank Kroger

Because I could not stop for Death,

He kindly stopped for me.

The Carriage held but just ourselves

And Immortality.

Emily Dickenson

John Frank Kroger passed away peacefully with his best friend and loving wife Amanda at his side and the caring staff at Sunnyside Home, Kitchener on Thursday November 19, 2020.

John is survived by his wife Amanda (Jamieson) of 47 years, children August, Vanessa and son-in-law Scott Monto. Grandchildren Chrystal, Scottie, Isabel and Emma have wonderful memories of their Poppy and he was so very proud of them.

An extensive group of family, friends and acquaintances will miss his booming laugh that filled the room, the colourful outfits that he proudly wore, his appreciation of the smallest gesture and his generosity of spirit. He will be missed but not forgotten.

John was born in Germany and came to Canada at an early age. The family settled in the Waterloo Region where he lived, worked and raised his family. He was an avid reader of a great variety of topics and had a keen interest in science: fact and fiction. He was always forward thinking…looking towards the possibilities in our great universe. He had a strong appreciation for the arts whether music, theatre, movies, painting, photography and especially for the artists and their efforts to share their gifts.

He attended Wilfrid Laurier University as a mature student where he studied English and Philosophy. He loved words and the art of the debate. He enjoyed working in the Concourse Art Gallery while he attended school and graduated with his degree in 1988.

John contributed to his community by volunteering on the board of Kitchener Housing and fundraising for the Canadian Mental Health Association.

At this time there will be no service or visitation. Family and friends will be welcomed to gather in memory of John in the summer of 2021. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Erb & Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo.

Condolences to the family and memorial donations to the Wilfrid Laurier University, Student Bursaries Fund, Sunnyside Home Foundation or a charity of your choice, may be arranged at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
