Bob was a kind and gentle man with a great sense of humour. I met Bob through our New Beginnings Widows and Widowers group and remember, with a smile, his weekly joke of the day. Bob took part in many of our group activities and very much enjoyed being part of NB. You are missed my friend.
On this day of Bob’s memorial, I send my deepest condolences to his family.

For those who don't know, Bob (with one O) was an original member of Widows and Widowers New Beginnings back when it was Tri-city Widows and Widowers Social Group. He attended our very first meeting on June 8, 2017 where 16 of us sat in a circle and introduced ourselves and shared what we hoped to get out of this group. His first comment was, "Hi, I'm Bob and I'm an alcoholic. We all laughed and followed suit with "Hi, Bob." We thought he was joking but later learned he was very proud of his 40 yr sobriety.
Our earlier members remember how Bob would entertain us every Monday Morning at Coffee with his joke of the day. We all looked forward to that until one day he just stopped. When asked why, he simply said, "I ran out."
Bob was a Maple Sugar Producer and arranged a tour for our group to a Maple Sugar Farm. Members thoroughly enjoy the tour and learned a lot from his expertise. As always, he made it fun! He also opened his backyard in 2020 to host some of our socially distanced backyard coffees. Bob told me many times that he loved this group and the people in it. It was a big part of his life. And HE became a huge part of us. We will miss his kind and gentle manner, his contagious smile and laugh..He will definitely be missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Our group has ordered a tree to be planted in Bob's memory. A living, growing memorial to honour our dear friend.
Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and all who loved him.

Bob ~ with one “O” ~ had a wonderful way of bringing a smile to the faces of all he met. Not only was his smile contagious, but he had a real knack for remembering and delivering a good joke at any opportunity. A fixture at our Widow & Widowers gatherings since the very beginning, Bob never seemed at a loss for words and his kind gentle manner endeared him to us all. Bob, you are missed. ❤️
My deepest sympathies to Bob’s family.

I have fond memories of spending time with Bob in his Sugarbush at MacDonald's Corners. He would like to dream of what his humble Maple Syrup operation could become. Being married to his daughter, Debby, gave me the chance to get to know him better, and living in Kanata afforded us the opportunity to help him during weekends of syrup season, usually between March - April. Debby, Eric, Bethany & I would clear brush, gather sap - whether it was by hand using buckets or larger barrels or holding tanks from which miles of plastic tubes drained into. Our method of transportation in the bush was via snowmobile. We even had a short chant we would sing as we drove The Alpine! (It was a Perfect 4th... for those musicians scoring at home.)
Other memories I had of Bob was his contagious laugh. Sure it was loud and brash, but one couldn't mistake it for anyone else's. The "HA!" rang loud and clear! He would also give us endless compliments and say "... and I'm proud of you" - which eventually became a method of teasing Bob as we would echo those same compliments back to him in an almost sarcastic fashion.
Bob, Marg, Jennifer, Donald, Debby & Marianne were a musical family. Marg would often say, "Even our sewing machine's a singer." Whether it was singing in a church choir, KW community choir, University of Waterloo Choir - Debby with myself, performing in a play at Waterloo Collegiate, or just playing Supertramp at full volume - Donald, music abounded in the house.
Bob always treated me with respect and was good to me. This developed into a mutual friendship for almost 40 years!
Bob probably spent the last 8 years of his life labouring under ever decreased health. First his heart, then his hip and finally his lungs got the better of him.
I miss him, but Bob is now finally pain-free and at peace. May he rest in the everlasting arms of love with our heavenly father forever.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences. I remember Bob always showing us around his sugar shack with incredible joy and excitement. His shared one of his books with me which continues to be a staple in my classroom. He will be dearly missed. Thinking of you all during this difficult time.

Our two families must have arrived on Moccasin Drive around the same time in 1968. There's not too many of the original owners still living on our street. Bob could always be counted on to give you a wave as he drove by or a hi if he was walking. His presence as a neighbour will be missed. We extend our condolences on the death of your father, grandfather and great grandfather.May the peace of the Lord be always with you.

With sincere sympathy to members of Bob's family. I was a friend of Bob's in our New Beginnings widow(er) group here in KW. We will always remember his quiet, gentle ways AND sense of humour. He was often part of the group that went dancing on most Friday evenings. In fact, the last thing we spoke about, when we chatted last Wednesday evening, was how we looked forward to dancing again. Gone, but will not be forgotten. Sincerely Barb Thompson.
