Obituary of Elsie Baird
Elsie Gertrude Baird, 82, of Waterloo, Ontario, passed away on January 15, 2021 at the Palliative Care Unit, Freeport Hospital.
Elsie was born in Waterloo, Ontario to Michael and Elizabeth Stix on December 2, 1938. She was a graduate of Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate and Vocational School. She was a proud homemaker and enjoyed volunteering at Knox Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir as well as volunteering with the Canadian Cancer Society. Throughout her life she enjoyed her church groups, tennis, book clubs, her wonderful group of friends, traveling and visiting with her grandchildren.
Elsie is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband, William Patrick (Pat) Baird of Waterloo, with whom she enjoyed a warm and loving marriage of 62 years. She is lovingly remembered by Cindy (daughter) and Jim Gaffney of Louisville, KY and Scott (son) and Marcia Baird of Waterloo. Her grandchildren, Sean, Austyn and Connor Gaffney and Hunter Baird will miss her laughter and her hugs. She is also survived by Carl (brother) and Diane Stix, Edward (brother) and Marjorie Stix, both of Waterloo as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Bill Stix and her sister, Elizabeth (Liz) Ford.
As per Elsie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to the present COVID-19 restrictions there will be a private family service on Thursday, January 28, 2021, 11:00 am, at Knox Presbyterian Church with Ministers Hugh Donelly and Brooke Ashfield officiating. The service will be livestreamed and can be accessed by clicking on the Watch Live link at knoxwaterloo.ca. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at a later date.
