Passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at 99 years of age.

Loving husband of Wilda Gerth for 73 years. Dear father of Susan (Ron) Schwark and Carolyn Seegmiller (Philip Cressman). Much cherished grandfather of Wade (Lisa) Schwark and their children Kurt and Troy, Mark (Sara) Schwark and their children Leila and Heidi, Matthew Seegmiller, and Stephanie (Joachim) Kamstra and their children Madeline, Arjen and Lewyn. Will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Betty Sowa.

Predeceased by his parents Clarence and Rose Gerth, sister Eleanor “Dolly” (Roy) Schnarr, brother Harvey (Verna) Gerth, sister Delores Gerth and brother-in-law Ed Sowa.

Douglas was born on December 2, 1921 in Kitchener and very proud to retire from Uniroyal after 43 years. His navy experience in WWII gave him a love of water activities, leading to cottaging, boating, and golfing in Southampton. Watching his grandchildren play sports and receiving home-made gifts from the great-grandchildren were a joy to him. Later years led the “arm-chair” athlete to viewing sports on TV, especially car racing and his Green Bay Packers.
