Antonia Joanna Adriana Rubie
Mrs. Antonia Rubie (nee Vanderwouw), age 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday Morning, January 30, 2021.
Antonia, affectionately known as Tonnie, was born on April 29, 1935. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was predeceased by her husband, Henricus (Henk) Rubie, in 2013, after 54 years of marriage. As a family we are grateful she is finally at peace and reunited with Henk in heaven.
Tonnie is survived by her children Diana Barber (Brent), Gary Rubie (Natalie), and Frank Rubie. She also leaves behind her 7 granddaughters, Ashley Gould (Todd), Emily Quinn (Chris), Olivia Barber, Kirstyn Rubie, Payton Rubie, Nikki Rubie, and Candice Rubie, along with her great-grand daughters Ella and Ruby Gould.
Tonnie was born and raised in Holland, before immigrating in 1959 with her husband Henk. They built a new life in Canada, where they raised their family, traveled, and enjoyed spending their summers camping.
Tonnie loved to laugh, sing, and visit with friends and family. She was proud of her home and a wonderful homemaker. Her greatest gift was her ability to make everyone in her presence feel loved and appreciated.
In retirement, Tonnie and Henk became snowbirds, travelling to Florida every winter for 2 months. They made a large group of friends in Florida who they looked forward to seeing annually.
In the final years of her life, Tonnie was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, and moved into Chartwell Westmount Long Term Care Residence in Kitchener. We want to thank the amazing staff for the compassion and kindness they gave her as her Alzheimer’s progressed, especially during the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing and loving Tonnie will greatly miss her. Heaven has gained an angel.
