Obituary of Thomas "Tom" William Kane
Thomas William Kane passed away on the morning of February 3, 2021 at the age of 58. He is survived by his loving wife Cheryl, his daughter Jacqueline (Billy), his granddaughter Lorelei, his father Tom Sr. and his sisters Brenda (Terry) and Sharon (Tom), his nieces and nephew Jenna (Jeff), Chris (Jess) and Emily (Mike), and great niece Olivia. Predeceased by his mother Joan.
Tom was a man of great patience and vision which he shared as a respected leader in many companies in his career. Tom travelled extensively throughout his career. He developed many positive lasting relationships worldwide. Tom was also a very involved mentor, locally, within Communitech. Through the short course of his battle with cancer Tom was bouyed by all the messages of support from friends, family, and contacts from past and present.
As a husband, father, and Grampy, Tom displayed his patience and calm even through his battle. He remained positive and focused on taking one step at a time, not getting ahead of himself. Through it all he maintained his sense of humour.
In his life Tom took great interest in many things, immersing himself fully, committing to the understanding and enjoyment of whatever he undertook. Tom was constantly learning. He taught himself to play guitar and worked to perfect his homemade bread and pasta. You could often find Tom in the kitchen with music playing and a glass of scotch or wine in his hand. Travel was a key part of Tom’s life as he loved to experience different cultures, cuisine, and drink. He was always looking forward to and planning his next trip.
Tom was married to his childhood sweetheart Cheryl for 36 years. During this time, they loved and supported each other through countless changes in life and work, each of them returning to school to further their education, becoming parents and grandparents, and Tom’s fight with cancer.
To say we will miss Tom is underselling it. Tom’s sense of humour, worldly perspective and joy for life touched everyone around him. He was positive, motivational, and truly believed in the goodness of humanity. We love you Tom. We love you Dad. I love you Grampy.
Tom has been cremated as per his wishes. Due to Covid restrictions and limitations at this time there will be no service. Our plan is to hold a celebration of life when we can all come together to share our memories and to celebrate the man who touched so many lives.
