Obituary of Gerhard "Gerry" Haack

Gerry passed away peacefully at University Gates on Friday, February 5, 2021 in his 91st year.

Survived by his loving wife of 67 years Phyllis.  Father to Cheryl (Lloyd), Garry (Claudia), Darrell (Sue) and Leslie (Peter).  Grandpa to Chris, Nick, Josh, Alex, Daniel, Emily, Victoria, Dylan, Catherine and Rebecca.  Great Grandpa to Toni, Aiden, Tyler, Zach, Khyra, Olivia, Sydney and Everett.  Great Great Grandpa to Aalaya and Mason.  Brother to Paul, Irwin and Erica. Predeceased by his parents Frieda and Paul, and sister Hilda.

Born at home on June 16, 1930 in Neustadt he arrived into the world weighing only 3 lbs. and spent his first night on the oven door of the wood stove.

A man with ambition and foresight started his own business Haack Siding & Supplies in 1975.  His children and grandchildren were part of the business for many years.

Weekends in the summer were spent at the family cottage in Lions Head for 51 years.  He built the cottage with the help of his sons, living in an old panel truck during the build.

In the winter Estero, Florida was his home for 32 years, where family would go down to visit regularly.

Service to mankind is the mission for the K-W Sertoma Club which Gerry joined in 1963.  He held many positions within the local club and climbed the International ladder to the position of International Director.

The K-W Speed Skating Club was formed in 1962 and his children skated with club.  Gerry spent many weekends driving across the country and the US to take the kids to speed skating competitions.  Gerry went on to become a referee for the sport.

Gerry loved to work with his hands, and never sat idle.  He built 3 of his homes, the cottage and had a passion for gardening, golfing, and renovating (just not plumbing).

A private visitation & memorial service will be held on Monday, February 8th at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo.

The family would like to thank the staff & doctors at University Gates (Downey Floor) for the excellent care Gerry received.

Condolences for the family and donations to the Parkinson’s Society of South Western Ontario, the Canadian Hearing Society or the Child Witness Center may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.

Don’t be sad that Gerry is Gone;

Rejoice that He was Here.
