Obituary of George Lloyd McWhirter
It is with great sadness that the family of George Lloyd McWhirter announce his passing on 14 February 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener at the age of 88.
George was born 16 March 1932 to William and Grace McWhirter near Stalwart, Saskatchewan and was the 9th of 13 children.
George is lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Bernice (Smith), his sons George and David, his grandson Jim, all of Waterloo. George will also be missed by his sister Evelyn (George) Kerr of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, his brother-in-law Norman George of Carlyle, Saskatchewan, as well as many neices and nephews, all of whom he was very proud
George was predeceased by his siblings Ellen (Bill) Hoffman, Edna (Duke) Laidlaw, Bill McWhirter, Elsie (Ralph) Olson, Jack (Kay) McWhirter, Isabel George, Pat (Charlie) Shaw, Andrew McWhirter, Mabel (Archie) Willis, Elvin McWhirter and Robert McWhirter.
George was a veteran of the RCAF and spent time on the DEW Line, as a radar technician, in his earlier years. When his family was younger, most summer weekends were spent camping at Inverhuron with relatives. He was a founding member of the KW Khaki Club, where he had many friends. George’s favourite past times were sports. He loved to golf and pitch horseshoes in the summer, and participated in bowling and curling in the winter.
There will be no visitation or funeral service at this time.
