Lynn and I were saddened to hear of Mary Ellen's passing. She was truly a good person who always greeted you with a ready smile and a positive outlook. I enjoyed her as a colleague both at Port Hope High School in the early 70's and during her time as principal at CDCI East. She has left a fine legacy in her amazing family.

Death is a time of sorrow and a celebration of life. Marion and I and our whole gang send our regrets and sadness for your loss but we remember with great joy the happy moments we shared as neighbours as well. Sandra, Susan, Charles and Stephen, your mother was always a loving and caring person and a stimulating and imaginative educational leader. Having said that, it was the shared moments we enjoyed with your family on Silver Crescent that stand out as well. Who can forget the, “Silver Threads” Nordic ski club or the annual Halloween venture on to the middle of the street to welcome evening travellers who had heard of our bonfire and free hot chocolate along with free tooth brushes. Your mother was a great reader but she also enjoyed those early morning swims in our pool accompanied with innocent chatter. Mary Ellen will be missed. Please accept our friendship and sad regrets.

Sandra, Susan, Charles and Stephen,
Salutations and sincere condolences to each of you and your families as your mourn the death of your mum and grandmother. Even though our paths have not crossed for many years many fond memories flood into my mind of the Beamish family during those amazing years of residing in beautiful Port Hope.
( Sherbourne St., Pine St., and Silver Crescent.)
Working with your mum was a privilege, an honour and always a pleasure. There is no doubt, she was a leader not only in education but in so many other
aspects of life.
To all of you I send you the very best thoughts as you grieve the loss of your loving mum.
Sincerely, Bob

My thoughts and condolences are extended to all of the Beamish/Barr family members.
Mary Ellen was smart, kind, classy and a trailblazer. When I met Mary Ellen, in my role as department head at Port Hope High School, I was inspired by her professionalism and devotion to her job and also to her amazing family.
Mary Ellen was always the voice of calm and of reason. Later when she and I worked together as two of the first female administrators in Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Ed., she was a true mentor and friend providing inspiration and encouragement always tempered with a healthy dose of humour.
Mary Ellen always put her family first and had a private laugh with me when Charles and Stephen expressed their creativity in their own unique ways. As a fantastic mother and educator, she empowered me in my own educational pursuits, but more she made me realize that having four children was a gift for life and so I too followed suit and am eternally grateful for her role-modelling.
On the 17th of March, my thoughts turned to Mary Ellen and I wondered where she was living and thought I would try to get in touch with her. I so regret that she is no longer here for me to connect with but her wonderful legacy and the hearts and minds she touched will last for an eternity.
My thoughts are with you.

Your leadership, skill and professionalism made a profound difference to our Cobourg high school in the 1980’s. It was my sincere pleasure to be a senior student under your leadership and witness your character, strength and stamina. You taught by example and this more than anything left a strong impression on me. My sincere condolences to the Beamish family. Godspeed, Stephen Della Casa
