Obituary of Margaret Zimmerman

Margaret passed away peacefully at Freeport Hospital in the presence of her family on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the age of 68 years.

Beloved wife of Bill for 39 years. Loving mother of Tim (Tania) and Naomi (Michel) and doting grandmother of Olivia. Also survived by brothers (Ted, Chris, Billy, Scott), sister (Pat), brother and sisters- in-law, many nieces, nephews, extended family, and godchildren.

Margaret was a loyal and caring friend to many. She brought kindness, wisdom, joy, and fun to everyone who was fortunate to know her. She will be especially missed by the women of LENC, with whom she shared so many memorable adventures.

Affectionately known by many as the “Princess of Knowledge”, Margaret was a wise and thoughtful educator to all. For almost 20 years, she provided life skills to special needs high school students at University Heights and Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute. Her respect and patience for these students hugely helped in making their often difficult lives better.

In addition to being an educator, Margaret was also a lifelong learner. She had a wide range of interests, a love for language and trivia, and pastimes that she nurtured into amazing talents. She was an avid birder, a true green-thumb horticulturalist, and a dazzling baker. There was rarely a special occasion in the lives of her family and friends that wasn’t graced with one of Margaret’s extravagant cakes.

Margaret’s passion for the great outdoors was centered on the family cottage in Haliburton, Ontario where she spent her summers since she was a child. While up there she loved to explore nature, read books on the porch, watch sunsets on the dock, and create lifelong memories with family and friends.

Margaret will be remembered as a woman of unparalleled grace and style. She was truly a unique soul who always struck the perfect balance between being playful and reflective. She will be sorely missed.

The family expresses its deep gratitude to Dr. Trussler and the entire nursing staff of Grand River Hospital for their care and compassion.

In Margaret’s memory please go outside, close your eyes, and listen to the birds singing their beautiful songs of spring. Know that her spirit will be there with you when you do.
