Obituary of Else Rydzy

Passed away on April 25, 2021.

Survived by her children Ute Lischke (David), Paul Rueter (Ursula), and Kurt Lischke. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Jack, Jeffrey (Lisa), Paul-Emile, Alexander (Marie), Adrienne (Mallory), and great grandchildren Elias, Aron, Max, Leontine, and Bastien.

Else was predeceased by her devoted husband Gerhard Rydzy, her brother Wilhelm Rueter and her parents Paul and Erna Rueter.

Our loving mother came to Canada from Germany in 1957 and worked hard to learn English. She obtained a certificate in accounting and enjoyed a wonderful career, working for over 25 years in the Accounting Department at Sears, in Fairview Mall. After retirement, she was able to devote herself completely to her passions- cooking, baking, gardening, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Over the years, she made lovely garments, blankets, and other cuddly things for all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. As an avid gardener she was a lifelong member of the Garden Club of Kitchener Waterloo. She liked nothing better but to have her family around her in her magical indigenous garden with a sparkling pond. She devoted many hours to her garden which she nurtured with great care. We were always amazed at her creative ways, especially her gargantuan efforts at recycling and conserving energy. A lover of nature, particularly birds, Else was a passionate environmentalist. We are all grateful that she lived such a long and fully independent life. She would encourage us all to go forth and plant many trees.

A special thanks to the team of doctors and nurses in the Emergency Department and the Cardiology Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Breslau.
