Obituary of Reta May Carson

Reta was born August 24th, 1929 in Listowel, Ontario and passed away on May 4th, 2021 at Innisfree Hospice in Kitchener, Ontario, surrounded by her devoted family.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Richard “Dick” (2003), parents Sam and Agnes Timm, sisters Ruth and Edith, brothers-in-law Norman Carson, Art Gibson, Bob Stephens, and Finn Christiansen, sister-in-law Eleanore Gibson, as well as son-in-law Neil McDonald.

Reta will be deeply missed and remembered with affection by many: her children - Larke (Maynard) Schmitt, Colleen Carson, and Sandra Carson (Stephen) Sills; her grandchildren – Heather McDonald, Craig McDonald, Andrew Crosbie, Kathryn Crosbie, Alexandra Sills, and Claire Sills; her 3 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Reta and Dick married in 1950 and began their life together in Gorrie, Ontario where they raised their 3 daughters and carried on the family-owned hardware business, and later on the Nursing Home business. Family, friends, home, and her beautiful gardens were the cornerstones of Reta`s life. Always quick-witted she was a particularly talented golfer, gardener, bridge player, and homemaker. Her family and friends will remember her as an avid board game and card player who never minded when all the luck at the table went her way. Besides her devotion to family and friends, Reta was a long-time member of the United Church and its women`s group UCW, Eastern Star, Probus, and Westmount Golf and Country Club.

Reta and Dick built many strong friendships during their 53 years of marriage. They liked to entertain at their condo in Cape Coral, their cottage on Lake Huron, and in their homes in Gorrie and Kitchener. Reta and Dick shared a love for travel and enjoyed many wonderful trips together spanning the globe. As Forget-Me-Nots bloomed profusely in her garden, we marked Reta`s passing; her family are thankful for many incredible memories of her that will be treasured and cherished.

A special note of appreciation to the team of staff at Innisfree Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.

In keeping with Reta`s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Gorrie Cemetery at a later date to be determined. Charitable donations would be gratefully received to either St. Mary`s Hospital - Cardiac Care Centre or Innisfree Hospice in Kitchener.
