from Robert Byers and on behalf of mildred Byers, it was sad and disappointing to hear of Uncle Reist death. i rember him as kind and good hearted, that is above average even for Evangelical christians, from the few times we met. Yes music was his thing i remember. its strange again to think he has died but he is in heaven waiting for resurrection with my dad and the others. Lord bless his children and all at this loss. Always I will remember him. he left a impression.

I have fond memories of coming for piano lessons with Lester's sister Joanne at age 7 at the Reist farm, near our Baer farm. Such a pleasant experience. While I didn't get to know Lester at that time, years later, as an elementary music teacher at Lincoln Heights PS, teaching Gr 7 and 8 music I was blessed to learn to know Lester as my music supervisor. Learning to know the recorder instrument through Lester's expertise was so helpful. The course outline he created on sequential recorder skills was incredibly useful; I think I still have a copy years later. Lester was a man who touched and helped many lives; a man who lived life to the full.

Sorry to hear of your father's passing Brent and Lori. Very fond memories of your Dad while in the Lincoln Heights Missionary Church choir. There was nothing better than finishing a song during a performance and getting the "nod and smile" from Mr. Reist that said, "Well done!" Being asked to do a solo or a duet that he thought you and your voice were capable of was a vote of confidence. Doesn't mean it didn't scare the heck out of me but I did it because he thought I could and I didn't want to let him down. There were a few of us younger singers that sometimes needed to be quieted down and a look and a tap on the music stand was all it took to get our attention back to music. Yes, lots of fond memories. P.S. Love the pictures and glad to see another crokinole fan. :-)

My condolences to Brent and Lori and their families on the passing of their beloved father. Also to his sisters and brother. Uncle Lester was truly a gentle man and a man of character. I remember with fondness the student summer that I spent house painting with him. He was a kind, considerate employer who had integrity and patience, modelling good will and a good nature. I also appreciated his dedication to music and singing. He embraced new technologies and was happy to explain his computer and MIDI keyboard interfaces that enhanced his music writing passion. His dedication to his choirs and quartet was inspirational. It was always a thrill to hear his solo voice. Above all, his love for his family and God were most evident. He will be missed.

Brent and Lori please accept the condolences of our family on your loss. Heaven just gained another singer if not the Choir leader. Perhaps he could give singing lessons to all of the Byers brothers that are in their heavenly home beginning with our Dad (Ed Byers) so that maybe one of the brothers might be allowed to be part of the choir.
