I was just going through some older letters and came across a note from Betty from when I worked at the school in her backyard. She was always delivering balls back to the school yard and then we would have a quick chat. You could always see her walking in the neighbourhood and saying hi to everyone she passed. She was such a nice lady and will be missed so much. My sympathies to her family.

I am watching the live streaming of Betty's funeral service. I am wearing my flowered shirt and running shoes, in honour of her love of gardening and her incredible stamina for walking. She was a role model for nature and conservation, for independence and healthy living, and a good neighbour. My mother is the neighbour across the street on Highland Road East. Also 94, the two would phone each other by 7 p.m. every day to check in on each other. Betty is missed.

Barb and family,
Sending you my deepest condolences as you mourn the loss of your mother, mother in law, grandmother and great grandmother.
I have many fond memories of your mom on Highland Rd E. She was a quiet person who loved nature and your back yard always reminded me of being in the woods with birds flitting
about. Her gardens were impeccable, and when she and your father walked it was with purpose!
We were fortunate to have her on our telephone party line as she must have gotten tired of the phone being busy all the time!
May your memories bring you comfort at this sorrowful time.
Sincerely,
Yvonne (Stilling) Wiens

My Mom was a nursing classmate with Betty.
My Mom is gone but I still make sure the nurses get together for their reunion every year.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
The nurses will miss Betty.

I am very sorry to hear about Betty’s illness and her death. I enjoyed quilting with her. She was wonderful at helping us set up the quilts and keeping in touch with friends. A lovely lady who cared about people. She inspired everyone. Marion Marr

Betty loved getting together every Tuesday to Quilt at First United Church, She loved to archive all of the quilts through the years.
Her quilting friends were special to her, and we kept in touch even after the group could no longer quilt. She was interested in
so many topics and also enjoyed the jokes in the Readers Digest. She cared about people.

Betty was a stalwart champion of conservation in all its forms. She has made an enormous contribution to the Kitchener-Waterloo Field Naturalists, often in the background recording our events for the archives, but also in the front line with her binoculars. We shall all miss her quiet smile and kind words.
