I was thinking of Peter and came across his obituary, very sad to learn of this. I worked with him at Merrill, he was a bon vivant. Good natured, welcoming, upbeat. Very kind to others, a real character. Had many soulful chats with him. A treasure. So profoundly sorry. Laurie Weinroth

We are very sorry to hear of Peter's passing. Our family cottage was next to the Lodge on Georgian Bay, and we knew Peter and his family when he was a scrawny teenager in the '60s! His mom, Ruth, was a character, and we enjoyed many fun times over the summers, when cottage life was simple, you could spend the day in your swimsuit, play board games on rainy days, and in the evening there were campfires, marshmallows, and singalongs on the beach. It's great to know that Peter accomplished so much, had many friends and colleagues, and enjoyed life to the fullest. Sending condolences from all the Busch family to all the Chandler family.

To Wendy and the entire Chandler-Strubb family: It has taken Pat and I awhile to gather our thoughts before sending this with our heartful love to all of you on Peter’s passing. Forgive us for the time it has taken but our hearts have been heavy. The obituary sharing Peter’s life was so well told and a fitting tribute to a great person. Simply put, Patrick, Olivia, Caitlin, and I will always be grateful for each and every second we got to spend with Uncle Peter. As anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him will know, he was the life and energy of any event. It didn’t matter where you were or what you were doing with Peter – a family Christmas gathering, a Thanksgiving feast watching playoff baseball, a concert watching Cheyenne sing, a rousing round of Euchre, the presentation of yet another old potato or frog statuette to my dad (an inside joke!) – you could not help but want to be in Peter’s orbit! One of the most generous people I know, Peter and Wendy and their family would always welcome us with open arms to every occasion. Thanksgiving celebrations in Ellicottville were always red-circled on the calendar and our daughters, Olivia and Caitlin, could not wait to hear Peter’s bellowing voice of welcome, along with some impromptu tuba playing, when we arrived. It meant the beginning of a weekend of unbridled fun and living life to the fullest. We are so sorry we missed the chance to visit you all at your new cottage. Peter was always thinking of others. A personal visit to check on Pat during some health-scare recoveries or a heart-to-heart conversation over a glass of wine by the fireplace to make sure I was handling the stresses and strains of post-grad studies, Peter never forgot about you. Of course, I will forever remember Uncle Peter when I eat French fries and gravy. While living with our mother in Toronto, Peter stepped in for our dad who was in Collingwood and made a point of taking my brother Brent and I out every Friday afternoon after the stock markets closed for a treat of ice cream or fries and gravy. He treated us like his own kids before he was blessed with Matt, Michelle, Cheyenne and the rest of his beloved Strubb children when he married Wendy. Peter and Wendy gave the same love to our girls. We will forever remember Peter and Wendy taking Olivia and Caitlin to dinner and the theatre in Toronto just before Peter’s first heart surgery. It was the last time we saw him and hugged him. Thank you for all that you taught us Peter: about family, friendship, and enjoying every moment of life to its fullest. We will miss you and love you forever. With all our love Danielle, Patrick, Olivia & Caitlin

I have so many dear memories of our childhood family get-togethers. Peter and I, being 10 days apart in age, shared lots of fun times - at Nana and Grampa’s on Hammersmith at the Beach; at ‘The Lodge’ on Georgian Bay; at my family’s farm; and as teens when I moved to Toronto.
The busy years of raising families and being distant miles apart ended our frequent associations of youth.
I was happy to re- connect with Peter over the past couple of years and enjoyed sharing some memories again. Last year, in typical generosity and flamboyance, he made me smile until it hurt with a shipment of three vintage accordions sent to my doorstep.
I will miss Peter.
“By blood we were cousins, in our hearts we were friends”.
Much love,
Debbie Tornblom

I had the great fortune of having Peter as my Brother in Law for over 4 decades. For some reason when he and I were together we spent a lot of time laughing ,poking fun at each other and kidding around. Always fun. He certainly demonstrated his "showmanship" we he was the Master of Ceremonies at my 50th surprise Birthday Party in Collingwood. When he was done I had at least 30 accessory props attached ! I will also never forget when he waited with me in the Hospital during David's 4 hour neck surgery , bringing out the scrabble game and basically entertaining everyone in the waiting room with his storytelling and antics. Finally, our family will always cherish the Thanksgiving weekends spent in Ellicottville . The attached photo shows Peter proudly displaying one of his famous wildflower centerpieces collected on the property. The world was a brighter place because of you Peter.

Growing up as Peter's older brother was always interesting. Peter had mom's zany personality and the unexpected was a common occurrence, such as challenging the dress code at Malvern ! In grade 9 and 10 he was on the track team and represented himself very well as a 100 meter sprinter. His favorite History teacher, Mr. Gilmore, impacted him greatly, inspiring his love of History and contributing to his becoming an Ontario Scholar in Grade 13. Peter was a wandering hockey goal tender and won a city of Toronto championship in a shootout played at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1968. Together Peter and I watched nearly all the games in the 2011 World Juniors Hockey in Buffalo and several Blue Jay playoff games in 2015. He was a master fisherman and we especially enjoyed casting a line on 2 private lakes in the Valley. His red and white Junebug spinner is now in the fishing Hall of Fame.
When Peter introduced former President Bill Clinton at a fundraiser , Bill started his remarks by saying that " it was the most unique and researched intro that he had ever heard" and even asked Peter for a copy for his personal records. Finally, the Peter highlight reel is extensive but number one on the list for me will always be my appreciation for the KINDNESS and sincerity in which he took my children, Brent and Danielle, under his wing when they lived in Toronto. I feel very fortunate and proud to have had such a wonderful brother.
Love David

Andrea and I are incredibly saddened to hear about Peter's passing. We have such fond memories of him and our hearts go out to Wendy and the kids. He was such an incredible presence and could quickly bring a smile to anyone's face with his quit wit and fantastic sense of humour.
I will never forget taking our daughters to see Taylor Swift. I suspect as a couple of middle aged guys, we stuck out in that crowd, but neither of us cared because giving our daughters that experience meant everything to both of us.
Peter will be missed by so many in our community. Sending love to you all.

A Loveable Scoundrel.
This is the way I shall remember Peter, gone too soon.
Most of his friends and family will not know my name, but I am the fellow that hired Peter at Merrill Lynch Canada when he first entered the Investment Industry a long time ago now.
From the beginning he "stuck out" from his peers and throughout my years of knowing him and hearing about his endeavors along the way the description above continued to run true.
I had not seen Peter in many years now since I myself retired from the industry back in 1995, but I remember him fondly, having spent many many good times with him.
RIP....."Hamba Gashle" (go well) Peter, as we used to say back in Africa........
