Marty Cresswell

Obituary of Marty Cresswell

Cresswell, John “Marty”
We sadly announce the passing of Marty Cresswell, surrounded by his children, on August 25th
at Freeport Hospital after a brief struggle with cancer at the age of 60. Originally from Coniston,
he had called Kitchener home for over 30 years.
He is predeceased by his parents Gary and Shirley Cresswell (Young), and brothers Patrick and
David. He is survived by his sister Sheila Toivonen (Bill), nephews Neil, Geoffrey, Gary, Andrew,
many cousins, uncles, aunts, and family. He leaves behind his three children Jeremy, Julia, and
Jennifer, supported by their mother, Carolyn.
An integral part of the CRA IT team, he liked to spend his free time golfing, curling, cooking,
and supporting the Bruins. It brought him great joy to bring out his inner child at Disney World
on our cherished family vacations. He was an incredibly supportive father, friend, and
colleague; and he will be missed very dearly.
A memorial celebration will be held at a future date. Donations in Marty’s honour may be sent
to United Way Waterloo Region Communities, or to the Grand River Hospital Foundation and
can be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home at www.erbgood.com or (519)
745-8445.
We would like to thank all the staff at Grand River and Freeport Hospitals, along with Father
Larry Parent of Blessed Sacrament Parish, who provided Marty with the upmost care and
compassion over the last few months.
