Mary passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at the age of 95.

Born in Ukraine, Mary came to Canada in 1948 with her family and settled in Saskatchewan. In 1952, Mary and her family moved to Kitchener. Eventually, Mary moved to Toronto to train as a Nursing Assistant, receiving her certificate in 1954 and worked at K-W Hospital (now Grand River Hospital). In 1967, Mary began working at Uniroyal where she retired in 1988 after 21 years of service.

For many years, Mary lived with her parents and sister Katie on Dover Street in Waterloo. In 1995, Mary moved to W-K Mennonite homes where she cared for many tenants and was nicknamed “Mother Theresa”. Mary enjoyed her travels to Germany, Hawaii and Cuba and loved crocheting winter hats which she donated to MCC Thrift on Kent.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Maria (Bueckert) Dyck, brother John (Rita), sisters Margaret Balzer (Nick), Katie Wiens (Peter), and nephew Henry Dyck.

Mary is survived by nieces Monica Williams and Esther Penfold (Bob), nephews Ed Balzer (Bev) and David Balzer (Violet), and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., followed by the funeral service in the Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 a.m. A reception in the funeral home’s Fireside Room will immediately follow the funeral service. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery, Waterloo will follow the reception.
