Blair is survived by their: Dad, Craig Dubecki of Kitchener; Mum, Dianne Lapierre-nee Evans (Jeff) of Vancouver, BC; Sisters: Maria (Joshua) of Nova Scotia; Andrea (Zac) of Toronto; and Stepbrothers: Brian (Kaylyn) and Matthew. Blair is survived by their beautiful partner, Nico (they/them); and their incredibly loving community of friends and chosen family in Montreal. Blair is also survived by loving Aunts and Uncles: Shirley Hall (Ron), Dave (Barb) Evans and Keith Evans, along with cousins: Tracy Valko (Bruno), Debbie Hall-Chancey (Rob), and Mike Evans (Rheanna), Wendy Bowman (Tacey), Geoff Evans (Brooke) and Scott Evans. Blair is predeceased by: Grammi and Grampi: Peter and Caroline Dubecki of Waterloo; Nana and Papa: Jim and Terree Evans of Kitchener; Aunt Sylvia Dubecki (Edmonton), and Uncle Rod Dubecki (Whitby).
Blair was born on June 30, 1987, in Kitchener, Ontario as the first-born child of Craig and Dianne. Blair was caring and free-spirited from the beginning, and would become, as one of their high school friends recently described, “a sweet, revolutionary soul.”
Blair’s early years were filled with visits to the family’s trailer in Kincardine, and exploring several interests, including flying rockets, Lego, Star Wars, dinosaurs, visual art, and music, always music.
After high school at Bluevale Collegiate, Blair pursued community and music, traveling to Eastern and Western Canada by hopping freight trains, which they justified to their parents as "How Grampi did it." They moved to Guelph, Ontario, where they lived and created music with their loving community of talented friends, and then to Montreal, Quebec.
In Montreal, Blair found a true community of incredible friends and chosen family, and the love of their partner Nico. Surrounded by the support of their community, they became their true, authentic self and made an impact on so many around them.
Blair worked in a bicycle mechanics shop; was a bicycle courier through the streets of Montreal; recorded, digitized, mixed, and mastered their own music and music for many friends and musicians. For the last few years, Blair worked for Mauro (who was like family to them) at the La Sala Rossa Restaurant and Live Music Venue, where Blair was truly instrumental in the live music side of the business.
Blair was a deeply talented artist and musician who could play any instrument they picked up. Throughout their life they wrote and performed music in various roles and with many bands, including Doggo, Dreamboat, Spacers, Sigh-One-Down, Blackbone, Heartsover, Sissyfistpunx, A Good Story, Analog Wry, and more. Blair embraced being a self-taught musician, a true testament to the compassion and tenacity they had to achieve everything they did. Blair’s curiosity combined with their sweet, witty, and feisty sense of humour, truly made them the beautiful, endearing human being they were.
We, Blair’s family, are truly blessed to have known and loved Blair. Though we already knew how loved Blair was, it is even more apparent from speaking with their friends, nearby and from afar, the inspiration, caring, and love that Blair shared with, and received from others.
