To the Witmer family,
The live stream service was very nice. The comments from the family members were accurate and well said. Cheryl and I have many fond memories of our time in France. I learned many things from your Dad. It's been good to stay in touch with him since our return 30 plus years ago. What positive memories.
May God give you strength and peace during this part of life's journey.

To Lois and all the family
We so much appreciated Bob and you in your welcome into the Mennonite family. I was baptized by Bob and attracted initially to Anabaptism through him. His evangelical faith and peace emphasis seemed more Jesus-like than my other influences. His ecumenical work and counselling for seekers and believers were exemplary. His willingness to work with others and his energy for practical projects were stimulating. He provided pastoral experience for young pastors in the regions and his lack of fear to cooperated with Catholics were new to the Abitibi area. Later visits in your home in Cambridge were welcome chances to talk theology and church practice with a deep humble thinker and doer. His heritage for Mennonites in Quebec is great. The loss of his physical body must be great for you all but we count his and your life as great gain for the gospel witness in Quebec.

Lois, my deepest sympathies to you and your family. For a number of years Bob was a great help to us at St. Jacobs Mennonite Church, providing assistance with translation when our partners from the Benin Bible Institute, West Africa would visit us. Bob & Lois were guests in my home a number of times together with our Beninese visitors. Bob took a keen interest in BBI's ministry and was a blessing to both St. Jacobs and BBI. He lived a full and rich life, God's faithful servant and an inspiration to many. His legacy will live on for many years to come. God's peace be with you. Sue Shantz

Robert (and Lois) were key in welcoming me to Paris when I lived there as a young adult. Their home was always open to me, and Robert played an important role in my spiritual life during that time. I will always be grateful for their availability to me at that formative time. May you be comforted and strengthened by God at this time.

Condolences to you, Lois, and your family, as you gather to celebrate the life of our dear friend, Bob.
My memories of your family including Cathy, Debra, Phil, Gerald and Myriam are embedded in those wonderful years that I lived in France during the 1960’s.
Following a fortuitous encounter with my sister Margaret and her husband Ross Lehman in August 1962, Bob invited me, a young university graduate, to work as a volunteer with the fledgling program at Châtenay-Malabry that evolved later into Les Amis de l’Atelier. Not only did this opportunity allow me to find satisfaction in living the dream of residing in France, but it opened the door to a range of events that were for me transformational.
Bob officiated at Edith’s and my wedding in 1966 and the following year helped arrange for our term spent at Hautefeuille in 1967-68.
Although our paths seldom crossed following our return to Canada, I followed with interest the amazing trajectory of Les Amis de l’Atelier. Bob’s book, – Emmanuel with Us: As I Lived It – includes this narrative. I enjoyed reading as well about the many years that Bob, with your help Lois, spent in the ministry of service to others.
As I observed him over time, I was impressed by his abilities to inspire people, to find creative solutions to problems and to master the French language, in itself a rare achievement for an anglophone.
His was a life well lived and now he deserves to rest in peace.

Greetings to you Lois and the family of Bob,
I was visiting my father, Gordon Bauman, when I was notified of Bob's passing, and so was able to talk at some length about our memories of him. Dad knew your family well, and had some memory of Bob's vacuum cleaner selling days! Dad wanted me to be sure to pass on his condolences to you all. I want to send my condolences too, with amazing memories of Bob and your family welcoming me to Chatenay Malabry in 1980. May you have a rich time of saying your farewells.
