Stephen Charles Wertman 1949-2022
Stephen Charles Wertman passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday January 20th,2022, with his family by his side after a 2 year battle with cancer. Stephen was a devoted servant of God who loved the Lord, his family and his Christian fellowship. He read the Word, taught the Word and Lived the Word.
His spirit and memory will be cherished by Judy, his wife and best friend of 48 years. Lovingly remembered by his children, Stephanie (Tom), Nicholas (Nancy), and Timothy(Stacey). Adored by his grandchildren Tristan, Samantha, McKinley, Oakley, Joshua and Jordan. He will be missed by his father Edward C. Wertman and Lola (predeceased) who lives in Pennsylvania, and his brother Edward L. Wertman (Virginia) who lives in Oklahoma.Dad had a passion for learning, and teaching God’s Word. He was an active member of First Baptist Church for many years. He served the Lord as a Bible School Teacher in the Berean Class, as a Deacon, and Boys Brigade Organiser. He also enjoyed hosting a weekly Bible Study in his home.
Dad had a great sense of humour, and was a natural storyteller. Every family gathering Dad would enjoy reminiscing about family adventures, mishaps and hilarious occurrences, always resulting in tears of laughter from all who gathered. Dad also had a creative artistic ability, an eye for detail and precision. Dad enthusiastically enjoyed learning about historical events, particularly those lesser known. He had a natural aptitude to retain facts, figures, and timelines, and enjoyed sharing these tidbits of knowledge with anyone willing to listen.
Dad’s greatest joy was spending time with family, particularly his grandchildren. He often spent a summer afternoon playing a game of catch, a competitive tournament of crokinole, or an intense battle with water balloons. Dad always took time to teach his children, and grandchildren about tools, cars, woodworking and nature.
Stephen was a humble, gracious and loving father, grandad and husband, he will be missed dearly.
Our family would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to Chantelle, the ParaMed nurse for her compassion and care.
