Dollar, Gordon Campbell

Passed away at The Village of Arbour Trails, Guelph, Ontario, on Thursday, February 17, 2022.

Survived by his loving wife of over 65 years, Marilyn, also of The Village of Arbour Trails, by his son, Stuart and his children, Sean and Julia, of Kitchener, also by his son, Alan, and his wife, Mary, and their son, Justin, of Conestogo, and by their late son Steven’s ex-spouse, Johanne, and their son, Geoffrey, of Ottawa.

Predeceased by his son Steven, of Hawkesbury, Ontario, by his father and mother, George and Margaret, both of St. Thomas, Ontario, and by his daughter-in-law, Yin Zhao, Stuart’s late wife.

Gordon Dollar was born in Horne Payne, Ontario on September 9, 1926. His father died when Gordon was five years old. Gordon grew up in St. Thomas, where he attended elementary and high school. In his final year of high school he earned an Elgin County Scholarship to attend the University of Western Ontario, graduating with high honours in 1948.

Gordon joined London Life Insurance Company in 1949. He moved up through the ranks, retiring as a regional manager in 1988. However, unsatisfied with retirement, he soon rejoined London Life as a financial advisor, until he retired again in 2010, ending a remarkable and successful career spanning more than six decades.

Throughout his second career he and Marilyn enjoyed life, maintaining their home, welcoming their children’s spouses into the family, delighting in their grandchildren, and travelling throughout the world.

Gordon’s family would like to convey their special thanks and gratitude to the staff and care givers at The Village of Arbour Trails, who cared for Gordon, and continue to care for Marilyn, and whose love and dedication helped to make Gordon’s final time as comfortable as possible.
