Obituary of Katharina Theisz

At the age of 86 and after a long and courageous battle, it is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Kathe on Friday, March 11, 2022, at home, surrounded by her family. She is predeceased by her loving husband Sebastian (2001). Beloved mother to Mia Schaefer and her late husband Brian (2005), and Bob Theisz and his wife Lorna Schwartzentruber. Cherished Oma to Richard (Dina) and Kaitlynn (Chris); Great Grandmother to Maryam, Lily, Tima and Stesha. She will also be remembered by her special niece, Elisabeth Naas and husband John and their children Veronica, Claudia (Jeff) and John Paul (Judy).  And, loved nieces and nephews in Germany, Andrea, Maria, Elvira, Rose, Annie, Franz and Wolfgang.

Kathe was a child in Europe during the second world war and the experiences of living in a war zone scarred her, as it did for many survivors.  She carried on and immigrated to Canada with her husband and young daughter in 1959 and started a new life in Montreal. In 1974 they moved their family to Kitchener and continued the adventure.  Kathe was an excellent hostess, special dinners were more feasts than meals.  She was an avid gardener and was particularly proud of her monster tomatoes.  She will be truly missed by her family and friends.

Special thanks are extended to the various medical professionals who treated her through her illness especially during these challenging COVID times; Dr. Harper, Dr. Wallace, Dr. Gajewski, Dr. Fung, Andrea Anderson NP, the LHIN, the wonderful PSWs, the compassionate palliative care nurses and the MAID team.

At Kathe’s request, the family will not have a visitation but instead a celebration of life at a later date where we will tell stories and serve her favourite dishes of  steak, French fries and Chinese food (buffet style of course).  As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and may be arranged by contacting the Erb & Good Funeral Home at 519-745-8445 or www.erbgood.com.
