It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Walter Huras peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener on April 1, 2022, in his 90th year.  Bob was the devoted, beloved husband of Myrtle (Myrt, nee Struthers) who predeceased him on December 23, 1998, after 44 years of marriage. God blessed Bob with Marjorie (Marj) Gabel who became his loving life-partner and best friend for over 20 years.

He will be greatly missed by his children Larry (Julie) Huras, Kevin (Laurie) Huras, Machelle (Tony) Denison and Monica (Tony) Metzger. Papa was treasured by his grandchildren, Brett (Erin), Stephanie and Ryan Huras, Amanda (Matt), Jessica (Violca) Huras, Addie (Derrick), Spencer (Holly) Denison, Dylan and Alanna Metzger and great-granddaughters, Rose Randall and Eloise Huras. Uncle Bob will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews.

Bob was a welcomed member of the Gabel and Elliott families and will be missed by Marj’s children, Brian (Helen) Gabel, Janet (Rob) Owens and Barry (Carolyn) Gabel as well as her six grandchildren and their spouses and eight great grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his sisters-in-law Jacqueline Huras and Isabel Pandur, brother Ron and sister-in-law Diana Huras.  He is predeceased by his parents Milton (1990) and Mabel (2005) Huras, brother Frank, in-laws Orvilla & Herb Fleischauer, Mary & Gordon Danbrook, Jim & Marj Struthers and Tony Pandur.

Bob spent his entire career in the building construction field. While a carpenter by trade, he was mostly in supervisory roles. He spent 14 years with Byers Construction, primarily on the Seagram Distillery build in Waterloo. A career highlight was his 24 years with Walter Fedy Architects and Engineers as a construction manager, projects coordinator and building inspector, retiring in 1996.

When not at work, Bob enjoyed time in the woods with his prized Walker foxhounds that he trained and with which he won many trophies at field-trials and dog shows in Ontario and the US.  You could always find Bob on a dancefloor. He was a smooth dance partner and in his early years a competitive step and square dancer. He loved playing Lost Heir and Euchre and enjoyed countless hours with family and friends around the kitchen table. Bob had a lifelong passion for hockey and was a devoted Toronto Maple Leafs fan. This was a love he shared with his mother, son Kevin and other members of the family. Bob spent many hours in arenas cheering on his sons, grandsons, nephews and great-nephews. In later life, Bob discovered a new interest in researching and documenting family ancestry. With a strong faith, he was also a long-time member of St. James Lutheran Church in St. Jacobs.

Visitation will take place at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home in Waterloo on Friday April 8, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. As per Bob’s wishes, a funeral with family only, will be held on Saturday April 9, 2022, at 11:00 am in the Erb & Good Chapel with a reception to follow.
