Ken Beal changed my view on life. He was a wise, wise man. He straightened me out many times in that messy office of his at
K-W Hospital. He used to call the hospital an area of "intense reality".
One day, I asked him "Why Me?" when my son died soon after my husband was diagnosed with MS. His response was, "Why not you??" Good point Ken... I learned so much from that man. He shaped who I am as a person.
My sympathy and condolences to Ken's family. Linda Huber

My heartfelt condolences for the loss of this wonderful and witty man, who once asked me "what makes you think you're so special?" That probably sounds harsh, but you had to be there - it made a huge difference in my work. Sending you love and hugs Kathy and family.

Ken was an icon to me, an inspiration in my work with grief, loss and pastoral care within school board psychological services. Going back many years to Fort William days; his leadership at Clear Lake, Manitoba, where in his trixter mode he interrupted our 3 am séance; Parkminster Church support; the learnings from Gotthard Booth explorations; family support collaborations; right up to the current “Buddies Group” - an inspiration, a leader, a wise and insightful friend with a twinkle and a sparkle! Well done! Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kathy and family. Peace! Bobbie & Doug Brown

“It’s all conjecture until the autopsy.” This is a bit of wry whimsy that Ken expounded on some appropriate occasion. And though it might seem inappropriate from a former Director of Pastoral/Spiritual Care at K-W/GR Hospital, it seemed very Ken, who could be both compassionate and delightfully irreverent about our common end.
I send sympathies to Kathy, his family, and to his many friends, among them the Buddies. Goodbye, Ken and thank you.

Maureen and I would like to offer our deepest condolences to Kathy and all of Ken's family.
Ken was very instrumental in my getting established as a practitioner of alternative health care in the K W area in the late 1970's. He believed in the work such that he helped to arrange my giving talks to the Goddard Booth Society, public workshops in the hospital auditorium and with his chaplaincy students. Ken was generous with his time, his office door always open. We had many wonderful chats over the years during his tenure at the hospital and occasionally after his retirement, usually at the grocery store.. Ken could always be counted on for incisive and sometimes wry and humorous observations on both the absurdities and blessings of life.
Dinner at the Beal's was a delight with good food, great company and welcoming hospitality. Most notable to Maureen and I was being invited as a couple during our initial courtship.
Ken served his community well with much wisdom, an engaged compassion, an ever helping hand, words of comfort and skillful means.. He will be missed and well-remembered.
Thanks Ken, for not only walking my path with me, but clearing some of the obstacles on it.
Ardy Verhaegen and Maureen Kennedy

Its not lost on me that at this time of his passing, pretty much everything I learned about death and dying I learned from Ken back in our K-W Hospital days. Always looked forward to coffee break time when Ken was around. Always appreciated his wise counsel during some of the turbulent times. Spent a lot of time in his office. He helped so many.

I remember reaching out to Ken at the then KW Hospital in 1983.......I was troubled about my first palliative care patient age 33 and her young husband and family of 3! Ken was always so ready to make time, so hospitable,so welcoming. He gave me wise counsel and confidence and made time to support her family even though she was never admitted! So much generosity of spirit. In later years his warm smile conveyed the same. Peace to him and each of the family!
