Basile Stathopulos
1940 - 2022
Basile Stathopulos, of Waterloo, Ontario, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, May 2, 2022.
Basile is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Panagiota Stathopulos (nee Muratis), his loving children, Eugenia (Gerald) Schatz, Peter (Sue) Stathopulos, Margaret Stathopulos, Angela (Brian) Burton, son-in-law, Daniel Toogood. Predeceased by his daughter, Penelope Toogood (nee Stathopulos), son, Nikos Stathopulos. Very proud “pappouli” to his grandchildren Liam, Justin, Basile, Cora, Eve and Isabelle.
Basile was born to Panagiotis and Eugenia Stathopulos, in Tripyla, Messinia, Greece on February 10, 1940. He immigrated to Canada in 1965 with a dream to give his future family a better life. Basile was a man of many self-taught talents from tailor, gardener, mechanic, electrician, plumber, carpenter, engineer, stonemason, entrepreneur, painter, restaurateur, and rogue veterinarian to slingshot marksman.
Basile has been described by all who knew him as a tireless worker, a warm-hearted, loving and gentle human being, and a tremendous role model who quietly led by example. He found great joy in his work, but Basile’s greatest happiness came from spending time with his family, both immediate and extended. He wore the badge of “pappouli” so proudly.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, May 5, at 2-4 and 7-9 pm with Trisagion prayers at 3:30 pm.
