Dear Michelle and Francoise,
My deepest condolences to you on the loss of your father.
To those of us who had the privilege of studying under him, he was a passionate teacher who shared his all-encompassing vision with tremendous enthusiasm. He saw opportunities and potential for innovation and interdisciplinary design in every aspect of life. His effusive energy, warmth and engagement inspired many Systems Design students to press on to find their calling, applying advanced problem-solving in creative ways, often well outside of the field of engineering.
I have many wonderful memories of conversations with your Dad, from my telephone admissions interview (that's a story of it's own!) to his high energy classroom instruction, to his coaching of our SysDes project work. Although the memories were created in less than 5 years, he left a lasting imprint on my life and will be remembered fondly.
With sympathy,
Marcia Wisniewski, BASc., MBA, CFA

Dear Francoise, Michelle and Families,
We would like to pass on our sincerest condolences to you on the loss of dear Kish. He was a close friend of mine for many years as well as a fine colleague throughout our long careers as faculty members in the Department of Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Kish was a fabulous teacher who was greatly admired and respected by his students who attended his lively and inspiring classes for which he was awarded the coveted distinguished Teacher Award. Kish always put the education and welfare of his students as his top priority and was a mentor to many of them. He was a person of principle who did not hesitate to support and speak up for what he felt was right. For example, while living and working in South Africa, he strongly and openly opposed apartheid. Our thoughts are with you at this time. Keith and Sheila Hipel and Family.

Attending a class led by Professor Hahn was an experience -- he was exuberant, passionate, funny and engaging. Even now, I have a big smile on my face thinking of how much fun his classes. Best wishes from this member of Systems Design, class of '82.

There can be little doubt that Kish was one of the best and most memorable Professors in Systems Design. He inspired, educated and entertained us all. He was confident enough of his teaching us (then) youngsters, that he never objected to our distracting him from his planned topic whenever we lost the mood to learn more ergonomics for the moment, and asked him instead about some detail regarding aircraft. We made sure to thank him by learning our lessons well, proving that the distractions were not wasted but rather thoroughly enjoyed
Condolences to his family, friends and the UW, Sys Des community. It is always sad to lose such a bright star

My condolences to the family of Professor Hahn: Kish was a dynamo, both as a professor and a mentor. He was one of the first professors I met in the Fall of 1971 when I and about 60 classmates became the second Systems Design Engineering Class. He spoke so rapidly we could barely keep up, and always attempted to resolve an issue on the spot. We did enjoy the day that the class watched one of his Kodak slides go up in smoke while Kish lectured on. It's clear he continued to positively influence future classes, as evidenced by his Distinguished Teacher Award.

Rest In Peace, Prof Hahn. I thank you for all the things you taught us in SYDE and your passion for ergonomics. To this day, I still remember many of our anecdotes with fondness. God Bless.

I remember Kish fondly from my days working at UW Biology Dept. His wife, Helena was my colleague for many years. He was a genuinely kind person with a sharp wit and sense of humor. He will be missed by many.
