Obituary of Jean Oakes

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Mother, Jean Oakes on Friday, May 6, 2022, in her 105th year.  Her final days were spent at Hospice Waterloo Region where she received wonderful and compassionate care.  Family was by her side until the end. 

 

Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Stewart Oakes, in 1988.  Interestingly, Jean and Stewart, both born in Arthur only days apart, were baptized together in the Presbyterian Church in Arthur.  They knew each other from the beginning.

 

She was the much loved Mother of John and his wife, Judy, of Markham, Milne and his wife, Mary Lou, of Waterloo and Graeme (deceased 2015) and his wife, Carol, of Conestoga Lake.  She was also a loving Gran to David Oakes of Manitouwadge and Bryan and his wife, Robin of Shelburne.  Dear Great Gran to Bryan’s and Robin’s daughter, Chloe Oakes.

 

Jean’s fondest memories were of family times at their cottage in Bayfield, her winters in California and Florida with Stewart along with their various travels and cruises. Jean had many friends.  She was an excellent and avid bridge player.

 

As a woman of faith, she found great comfort in her beliefs.  Until she was unable to attend, she was a faithful member of Knox Presbyterian Church.  In her later years, Jean resided at Luther Village, first in her own condo and then, in the Sunshine Centre for assisted living.

 

Our family is grateful to all of the staff and caregivers at Luther Village as well as to Hospice Waterloo Region for their care.

 

A private family funeral will take place Wednesday, May 11 at 10:30am in the Chapel at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home.  Live streaming of the service will be available at www.erbgood.com.
