Obituary of Larry Joseph Detzler
Larry (Affectionately known as “The Chief”) passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital Friday May 6, 2022. At the age of 71.
Loved son of his late parents Earl and Rhoda Detzler and brother David.
Larry is survived by brothers Dennis (Dale) and Brian (Helen) and sisters Carol (John) and Susan.
Larry is also survived by nephews and nieces Colin, Matthew, Sarah, Melissa, Christopher, Scott, Sarah and their respective families.
Larry was a longtime resident of the Allen St. Neighborhood in Waterloo. Following retirement from his landscaping business he took great pride in his recycling efforts. He was an avid collector of model cars, trains and books and although he had collected required parts, he was unable to complete his dream of restoring his 1971 Chevy Cheville.
Larry’s favourite memories were times at the family cottage. He continued to enjoy the time spent with family at holidays and special occasions. He kept us all lovingly amused with “stories of The Chief” and we will continue to repeat those stories in memory of him.
As a family our best description of Larry would be the song “I Did it My Way”.
Echoed by his friends we have lost a gentle, caring soul.
Special thanks to the nurses and personal support workers at Freeport Hospital for their care and support.
Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S, Waterloo, on Thursday May 12, 2022, from 5:00-8:00pm and Friday May 13, 2022, at 12:30pm.
