Obituary of Helen Frances Somerville
We lost a good one. Helen Somerville (nee Hurst) passed away peacefully just after noon on July 6th at the age of 89 with her son and daughter by her side. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Wayne (2011) who she met when they were both starting their teaching careers at Queen Elizabeth Public School. Together they shared a wonderful life full of friends, bridge, entertaining and travel. She is survived by her son, Sandy (Beth), and daughter, Tara (John) and the three young men she adored — grandsons Leif, Hiatt and Eian. Helen’s kind and gentle nature not only made her a great wife and mother but also a terrific teacher to all the children that came through her classroom over the years. Family always came first with Mom although her tight knit groups of friends placed a very close second. She loved all of us with an open heart and open mind — sweetness and light guided her life and we are truly fortunate to have shared our time with her.
Helen’s family would like to sincerely thank Nurse Bernadette, the Bayshore PSWs and the Staff at University Gates Retirement Village who treated Mom with such good care and kindness.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 14th from 2pm to 5pm at Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo with a short tribute to Helen at 4pm. Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Helen’s name to the KW Symphony or to a charity of your choice and can be arranged through the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
