Obituary of Vernon George Widmeyer

Vernon passed away peacefully at the Freeport Campus of Grand River Hospital on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the age of 95.

Vernon was predeceased by his wife Helen in 2014, son Jim in 2013, daughter-in-law Lisa Marie Widmeyer in 2009, parents David and Malinda (nee Grein) Widmeyer, brothers Nelson (Mary) and Earl, sister Lula Zuch (Earl), brothers-in-law Frank Moritz and Carl Rutti, and parents-in-law John and Valeria Skibicki.

Vernon is survived by his daughter Sharon, son Paul, sisters Lorna Heintzman (Gordon) and Ionne Moritz, and sisters-in-law Elaine Widmeyer, Joyce Widmeyer and Clara Rutti. He will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews and their families.

He was a longtime member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Kitchener where he sang in the church choir for over 50 years. Vern also sang in the Urstadt Quartet and the Jubilation Male Choir. He was also a member of Rockway Golf Club and enjoyed bowling. Many years ago, Vernon worked for his brother Nelson’s company, Black Top Paving, in Bridgeport. He later pursued his longtime interest in stocks and securities and achieved his licence in that profession. He will be remembered for his kind and friendly nature.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 2:00 p.m., with The Rev. Sebastian Meadows-Helmer from St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Kitchener, officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Fireside Room.
