Obituary of Verna Bernice Ditner

Passed away suddenly on Monday, August 1, 2022 at Aspira Doon Village Retirement Home, having just entered her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late Edgar Ditner who predeceased her in 2015.

Verna is survived by her daughters Carol Brayshaw (Michael) of Cambridge, Linda Schnarr (Patrick) of Kitchener and her devoted son Douglas Ditner of Waterloo. Also survived by her cherished younger brother Roy Dorscht of Kitchener and his wife Gail as well as grandchildren Michelle Revenberg (Larry), Lorne Brayshaw, Jason Schnarr (Jessica), Stephen Schnarr (Candice), Ian Schnarr (Stephanie) and great grandchildren Brooklyn, Matthew, Lucy, Mackenzie, Cadence and Sophia.

Verna was born and raised in Waterloo, Ontario and was a staunch believer in the value of a public school system accessible by and for everyone. Throughout her life Verna impressed upon her children the priceless value of lifelong learning in all its forms. Rarely would her children find her without a good book in her hand and was known to read a book per day. She was also a passionate advocate for the rights of hearing-impaired individuals, having lived with a deterioration of her own hearing since her late teens.

Special thanks to long time family physician Dr. Michael Kane and all staff at Aspira Doon Village Retirement Home where Verna resided for the past two years.

Cremation has taken place and interment will be held for immediate family members only, graciously officiated by Father Brian Quigley.

Condolences for the family and donations to the Canadian Hearing Society or St. Mary’s General Hospital may be arranged through the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street S. Waterloo at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
