Dear Brad & Karen & families,
We are so saddened to hear of you Dad's passing. We were away out West, so were not able to attend the visitation.
Harvey & Rene were dear fellow missionaries and greeted us warmly on our arrival in Nigeria. We always enjoyed times together and remember your Dad's hearty laughs, along with serious conversations. They hosted us several times in Share.
He was very energetic and committed to the work wherever he went.We are grateful for the full life God granted him here, and may he rejoice in his Savour's presence forever.
Sincerely, Bruce & Helen Snyder

I have lots of memories from Rock Haven as part of the group of missionary kids that Fretz's parented. Then, in recent years, it has been interesting and faith building to read his letters about the 'happenings' in Nigeria. He will definitely be missed by a broader community than just his family!!

My sincere condolences to Harvey's family in the loss of a gentleman who joyously lived out his faith. He knew that I was a distant cousin of Rene's and reached out to my husband and myself through Christmas emails that always reflected his love of his Lord and of the people in his life. He responded to my Christmas letters with interest in my stories. He even arranged a Sunday family dinner together at the Mennonite home where he lived and invited my husband and me as well as Karen, Marjorie, Mike and Reva. it was a delightful family reunion of the VanSickle cousins that I occasionally visited as a child, and a chance for me to get to know Karen and Harvey a little better. Harvey''s kindness and thoughtfulness will always be with me and his memory will brighten my days...His life did indeed make the world a better place.

I send sincere condolences to the Fretz family. I knew them before leaving for Nigeria but they became like "family" once we were together there. I guess my best memories of our time together in Nigeria was when they moved to Tungan Magajiya to take over the English Bible School (College now) and I was teaching down the road at the Girls' Secondary School. Harvey even had a dorm named after him there. I remember many times heading to the Fretz home to share letters I would get from my dad at home correcting my so-called speech in the ones I had written home and Rene use to say that they were worth more that afternoon soap operas. We laughed at them together. I remember the Frets taking me in one nite when I got food poisoning. Rene was up all nite caring for me. Harvey was there from time to time checking up on me as well. Precious and caring folk they were. I am blessed that we belong to the Family of God and will meet again someday. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

We send our sincere sympathy to all the family! We have fond memories of EBC days when we were on deputation and enjoyed homemade tea biscuits and jam after the service, with Harvey and Rene. Harvey was a wonderful friend and encourager to my folks, G. and J. Eby, and we learned to play the game of Golf, around the table, in their vacation home in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Harvey radiated God's love by serving and caring for others. He will be missed by so many!
Praying for comfort, filled with memories of this special gentleman whom you loved!
Sincerely,
Gale and Murray Smith

I (Ivan) first came to know Harvey when I was 8 or 9 years of age at Bethesda Missionary Church. Emmanuel Bible College were with us that Sunday promoting EBC and Harvey sang a solo - "How Great Thou art". My next encounter was at EBC when I was a student there. When Harvey went to Hamilton, he was in need of volunteer help so Donna & I consented to drive to Hamilton every Sunday to teach Sunday School and help with the music. He was a great encouragement for us to begin the work in Oakville and was even with us for the first service we had. Harvey has been a pastor both of us and often phoned us just to bring encouragement to us. He truly had a pastor's heart. His friendship has been deeply appreciated over the years. Our deepest condolences to Brad and Karen and your families. We will be praying for you all. Your dad was well loved and is finally home with your mom. We loved them both. They made a deep impact on our lives.

My sympathies to Brad and Karen and their families. I remember your dad from Lincoln Heights and have many wonderful memories from that era. He was a sincere man and a sincere preacher. It was easy to listen to him preach and he lived his conviction. I am sorry for your loss.

What a great life well-lived, with many miracles along the way. The Fretz family has every reason to be proud of the spiritual legacy that Harvey and Rene left for you. Keep it going!
Both the Fuller family and the Dow family were blessed by Harvey and Rene. We are grateful to have been their friends and fellow-pilgrims in the way of Christ.

A lasting impression I have of “Uncle” Harvey is from our time in Nigeria. I lived at home with my parents instead of at a hostel, attending Hillcrest School as a day student. We lived a couple of “blocks” away from Rock Haven hostel where Harvey and Rene were hostel parents. While visiting Brad one day I was asked by Harvey: “ When are you going to come stay at the hostel?” I didn’t think I was eligible to do so and so was impressed by Harvey’s hospitality. Fond memories. Well done good and faithful servant. Love and blessings to the family. Derek Shore

My sincere condolences to Rev. Fretz’s family. I had the privilege of knowing Harvey. I attended Lincoln Heights in the 2010s, and whenever Harvey would visit, we would speak about his experiences as a pastor and missionary. He knew that I wanted to go to EBC and become a pastor, so he always offered words of wisdom and encouragement to me. He made a significant impact on me, for which I am eternally grateful.

Brad, Karen and families, our hearts go out to you as you have lost such a wonderful dad, grandpa and great grandpa. May God surround you and uphold you as you face these days and months ahead.
We have been significantly impacted by his life and ministry both at Lincoln Heights and Bethany churches and treasure the friendship we shared. His love of life and laughter were so infectious. God has blessed countless people through his unselfish service. His leading us in prayers for missionaries during our weekly Zoom prayer meetings took us on a journey to the gates of Heaven! He will be deeply missed.
