Obituary of Mary Eileen McCargar (nee Moser)

Mary passed away on August 26, 2022. Mary was born in Waterloo in 1925 to Emil and Amelia, and is predeceased by her brothers Jerome, Wilbert, Leonard, Douglas and Kenneth. She leaves behind her children Tim (Karen), Cameron, Anne (Dave), and Scott, grandchildren Marilla, Callie, Conor (Heather), Courtney (Brent), Devon (Madeleine), and great-granddaughter Elina. Mary made friends wherever she went - at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, at Westmount golf course, and even at the grocery store. A practicing Catholic, Mary thanked God for the blessings her life brought her as a homemaker, but she was also known to do or say something naughty and then cheerfully quip, “God knows I’m a sinner - that’s why I go to confession!” She loved to drive, packing her children and their friends into the station wagon and driving them up to the cottage in Parry Sound, or zipping around Waterloo, until she reluctantly gave up driving in her early 90s. Mary was happy to be surrounded by her children and grandchildren, but, more than anything, she wanted to be with her husband Robert McCargar. Married 72 years to her beloved Bob (Robert if he was in trouble), Mary and Bob built a wonderful life for themselves and their children. Bob faithfully cared for Mary in her illness, ensuring that he was by her side. She loved him with all her heart. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, August 31 at 11:00am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Food Bank of Waterloo Region are gratefully appreciated.
